Your husband could also apply for an extension for filing his 2019 return. You can do it online (once 2020 is here), it is automatic (good for 6 months, to Oct 15, 2020), and it is perfectly legal. ...

I agree with Noorah; the NVC will boot you once you have been inactive for over a year. I take that to mean as long as you are logging in to your account your are considered active.
