Re: i 751 delays

Well,I thought the next step was just a lot of waiting, but when I happened to log in to my USCIS account two weeks after getting my extension letter, I found a message that USCIS tried to send me a...

Re: i 751 delays

And today I finally received the extension letter. It took almost exactly eight weeks from when I sent the application to USCIS. Something to have in mind if you're sending in Removal of Conditions....

Re: i 751 delays

For those in the same boat, my check was cashed today, 4.5 weeks after USCIS received the application. So Notice of Action should not be far behind *crossing my fingers*.

Also, I realized that...

Re: i 751 delays

Thanks Robbyad for sharing your experience. I cant really add much to the conversation, other than that I am in the same boat. I got a message two weeks ago from US Postal Service that USCIS had...

Re: Does a RFE on the I-485 delay EAD?

Congratulations Calibound on finally getting your EAD-card! I can only imagine the relief you must be feeling. Good luck in your job search!

Re: Green card renewal timeline

I am assuming that you were married less than two years when you had your interview. In that case you become a conditional permanent resident and get issued a conditional green card valid for two...

Re: First time moving abroad (advice?)

I don't know exactly what working as a caregiver entails, but I was thinking that getting a skilled workers visa (EB3) as a nurse might be the most plausible path to the US for you? Since I am not a...

Re: Seeing if We have a chance

I looked around and realised that the Department of Homeland Security compiles the statistics for all immigration. The data for 2019 is only done up to quarter three so far, but you can find all kind...

Re: Seeing if We have a chance

I think retzie is correct though, the table is for immigrant visas, you don't get a new visa if you do adjustment of status, do you? I tried to Google a bit to find those numbers, but figured I...

Re: Taxes: Moved to US on 30th December, do we file separately or jointly?

Ok. Anyways my point was that both posters who asked about this are dual-status aliens, who can choose to be treated as US residents if they want to. They are not "Non-Resident Spouse Treated as a...

Re: Taxes: Moved to US on 30th December, do we file separately or jointly?

I think you got everything correct, apart from mixing up married filing jointly with filling as a resident again. Also, it is not that you can't file as a as resident again if you are an alien, it is...

Re: Taxes: Moved to US on 30th December, do we file separately or jointly?

I think you read that wrong, it does not AUTOMATICALLY change when you relocate countries, but table 1.1 lists the way it can change anyways. The first way it could change is by writing to IRS and...

Re: Taxes: Moved to US on 30th December, do we file separately or jointly?

This was the only point you made which I'm not sure you are correct. The P-519 says "You and your spouse must file a joint return for the year of the choice." So even though you can not choose to be...

Re: Taxes: Moved to US on 30th December, do we file separately or jointly?

Thank you for clarifying my post! I am far from an expert in this field, but figured my experience would still be relevant, since it was recent and so similar.

Iirc, the problem I ran in to with...

Re: Taxes: Moved to US on 30th December, do we file separately or jointly?

BTW, if you want to get the information directly from the horses mouth, read through Publication-519, U.S. tax guide for aliens. You would be a "Dual status alien", i.e a non-us citizen who has been...

Re: Taxes: Moved to US on 30th December, do we file separately or jointly?

I did this last year, and it was a bit complicated IMHO. Since I had been a resident in two different countries the free version of TurboTax wouldn't handle it, so I ended up paying for it. If I...

Re: EAD/AP combo question

I did this not that long ago, went from L1 to green card based on marriage, so it rang a bell.

According to I-131 instructions, generally an AOS is considered abondoned if you leave the US without...

Re: Anyone got an L1 stamp they can look at?

Just checked my I-94, and they say just L1, both the one from when I entered originally in march, and when I got back from visiting my family for Christmas. I checked both times that the dates were...

Re: Anyone got an L1 stamp they can look at?

Hmm, my visa stamp, both the actual visa and the stamp from CBP at entrance, only say L1, no a or b. Does it matter that it is based on a blanket application?

Re: My L1a to LPR (via marriage to USC) Journey/Package/Timelines/Etc

Congrats Aquapanther!

I've been following you since you applied like a week after me. So I'm both jealous, and a bit hopeful since you're case shows that i might NOT take 18 months.

Also thank...

Re: RFIE - LPR Application

Since Aquapanthers situation is so similar to mine, I do remember that he, like me, got married this year. So he and his wife can not have filed jointly for 2017.

Taking a personal interest in this since the OP applied for the exact same AOS as I did, only a couple of weeks after me...

The instructions for I-864 specifically states that a transcript from...
