Agreed.. Technically you don't need it... but no point for $7 ( or whatever the amount was) trying to argue with a check-in agent and be sent home.... I was asked if I had an ETA before being handed...

I did it mid Dec past in Halifax and it is painless and the officiers couldn't be more helpful. As already said, read the Wiki article.
