Re: Buying a house in Melbourne

I'm pretty sure that as long as you have the right to permanent residence - whatever the visa type - you can purchase any property you like.

If you are a temporary resident, then the FIRB (to who...

Re: validating

You all need to go. Hubby must enter first - i.e present his passport before the rest of the family present theirs.

Re: Ist time landing questions.

You can enter Australia at any port of entry for the purposes of validating your visa.

There are no checks made on how much you bring into the country compared with what you said on your...

Re: Do DIMIA contact your work

If you are a British citizen, based in the UK, the chances are very slim that your employer will be contacted - but it's always possible. If, on the other hand you are, for example, of Indian...

Re: Do I say thats it then ?

There are so many different visas and sub-categories.

I suggest you contact one of the many agents who are happy to give initial phone consultations FOC (try a web search for and fill in a...

Re: Stni Sa - Can You Work In Another State

This one has been done to death - try a forum search.

Unless things have changed recently, the obligation to live in the sponsoring state is a moral one - not a legal one, and as such there is no...

Re: Life Insurance

The NU policy explicitly states which countries (or continents with list of excluded countries on each continent) it remains valid for should the policyholder migrate.

Re: Life Insurance

Our life assurance policies with Norwich Union are valid even if we emigrate. I specifically asked them this when I took out the policy. They remain valid as long as we are living in 'safe' countries...

Re: What food do they take off you as you enter?

Chocolates, biscuits and the such like are fine, as long as the packet hasn't been opened. Anything cooked is generally ok - again as long as it's not been opened. Anything uncooked (e.g. fruit) is a...

Re: Melbourne - Westpac or CBA?

Re: Melbourne - Westpac or CBA?

Take your pick - NAB, CBA, Westpac, ANZ. People seem to have strong preferences, but to me they are all much of a muchness and all c**p compared to UK banks - yes, I know that's hard to believe, but...

Re: Agents boards outside your house....Think about it...

I would have thought they'd go for derelict or obviously empty properties. Most houses up for sale are still being lived in and if you got a vechicle registration document sent to you by DVLA for a...

Re: Self employed tax returns evidence for DIMIA

Anyone who is self-employed, or runs their own small company/business should have their accounts audited, even though it is not a legal requirement.

Accounts can only be audited by a chartered...

Re: Self employed tax returns evidence for DIMIA

Not quite true - small businesses do not have to have their accounts audited in the UK.

A (UK) company must appoint an accountancy firm to audit their accounts if it has an annual turnover greater...

For electronic visas (ETA) - just put the dates and 'ETA' where it asks for the number.

For the 'paper' visa, just put the date and say that you can't remember the visa number. They'll be able to...

Re: Skills assessment before or after STNI Vic

Yes - if you have state sponsorship, you will be 'fast-tracked' by DIMIA. Also you have 6 months to apply to DIMIA - they don't have to finish their processing within 6 months.

Re: Skills assessment before or after STNI Vic

VIC (and ONLY VIC) allow you to apply for STNI without having the skills assessment first, but you will need the skills assessment for DIMIA. So the thing to do is apply for them both at around the...
