Re: Underrated things to do in the UAE

Great thread. A shame that it died so quickly.

I will be trying most of the above, so many thanks to the posters!

Re: Should I move to UAE even on a lower salary than now?

Yes you must tally the whole package and estimated costs to compare net amounts.

remember to include pension and public services in your calculation of the UK package, and 'end of service' and...

Re: Child born outside UK citizenship status

I agree with your points and yes it's very complicated. I like your analysis of the second claim - funding of pensions.

I guess I should give a caveat with the term "most rational people", as it's...

Re: Child born outside UK citizenship status

You seem to have to make many assumptions to arrive at this conclusion.

I have not seen any credible analysis on the micro economic impact of immigration to/from the UK. But the general feeling by...

Re: 1.26 and falling

I admire your confidence.

I have my doubts that international airlines and hotels can absorb the losses of maintaining their £ product prices. I think inflation is inevitable at this point.

Re: 1.26 and falling

£ per pint has always been my yardstick. After a few I'm not capable of recognise the value of QAR/AED.

A rate rise?

Re: The Sustainable City

Totally plausible, if there wasn't such vast and cheap supply of conventional power in the region.

If the GCC ever does want to go clean/renewable on energy, solar would be a big part it. PV...

Re: 1.26 and falling

Here's hoping :fingerscrossed:

The state of affairs in the UK could do with some positives, less it devolves into a globally insignificant subjectified union destined for a break up and relative...

Re: 1.26 and falling

This just adds to the problem for the UK housing market in respect to UK residents, as discussed earlier in the thread.

I struggle to see the bright side. And I think it will be 5 years before...

Re: 1.26 and falling

I think that this largely depends on the trade deals post brexit, we shouldn't presume what border tariffs will be. And i expect that this uncertainty is stopping business from making medium term...

Re: 1.26 and falling

UK housing priced way below build cost ?!? How can one find these?

I have no experience with house building, so perhaps the margins are much tighter than I think.

Re: 1.26 and falling

Well, I don't think there are any developments where a higher build cost home is priced below a lower build cost home.

In terms of the price of housing being so much more than the build cost, I...

Re: 1.26 and falling

I hope this does not come to bear. An over-leveraged housing market (excluding the reselling of that debt) is a scary reality.

Re: Emirates ‘overcharges UAE residents for outbound flights’

It's the same here with QA.

I guess it's due to lack of competition. If they have a monopoly on the route then they can fill planes at high rates. In the UAE I think there is some competition but...

Re: 1.26 and falling

And thank goodness! It is the equities markets that caused the majority of the damage. Over stretched institutions failed, tax money bailed some banks, leading to massive job losses and a nose dive...

Re: 1.26 and falling

House prices will need to drop for the British society at large. The question is how and when.

It is clear that the current government will not want to get on the wrong side of the landlords, so...
