No they just issue you with a QLD one here, she didn't even need to do the theory test. We had to 9 years ago, but they have changed it.

Update

Got the final approved visa through a few weeks ago. The whole process was 7 weeks from start to finish!!:):)
Very happy we did it from here.
She has got the Medicare card, drivers...

She is on a tourist visa. And you can still apply for the aged contributory visa once you are in the country. They just give you a bridging visa to stay once the 3 months runs out.

Aged Contributory Parent Visa progress - onshore application

Sent application 8th August
Letter back /fee charged 13th August, bridging visa granted.

30th August got email from Case...

We did the whole visa onshore as a friend did the same and it comes through a lot quicker from this end, rather than in the Uk.
Maybe call and find out if there is anyway of changing it. Maybe she...

Just an update on my Mum's contributory aged Visa resident progress

She arrived 6 Aug sent visa application off 8th Aug, got a letter back with case officer, visa charged and her bridging visa...

Smile Contributory Aged Parent Visa progress

Mum arrived on the 6th August and we applied for the visa on the 8th.
Letter received with case officer noted, credit card charged and bridging visa approved on the 13th August!

So glad we took...

Did they say you would be entitled to anything after the 2 year period is up?
I would be amazed if every retired parent that comes over has enough money for themselves to live on as the years pass....

Thanks for the Centrelink links. It says there is 10 year exemption for the Aged Pensions I guess this means they cannot get any pension money for 10 years :confused:

Can anyone tell me if any aged concessions are available in S' Australia. Centrelink haven't been very helpful and seem to think that I have to wait 2 years before even travel consessions are...

This is such a generalisation, I have NEVER felt homesick either, nor has my partner. The only thing I have ever missed is the people!

Walked into Coles last week to find a beautiful display of Fairy Liquid (original AND Lemon varieties) $3 a bottle. First time I have seen it here, they also had dishwasher tablets.

Woolies now sell;
Cumberland Pork sausages by The British Sausage Company:thumbup:
they are really good, they come pre-packed in the snag department. Taste pretty similar to Uk ones.
