Re: Sabah MM2H

This information isn't correct, RedApe, though some people may have used this method in the past.

An MM2H visa is NOT evidence of residence in Malaysia since there is no obligation to have...

Re: Activating MM2H visa

Unfortunately health insurance is not very well covered in this forum and yet it is essential for anyone intending to live in Malaysia.

Whether or not you plan to live in Malaysia immediately or...

Re: Underfloor heating - Maintenance advise

Your instincts are correct TP - don't touch it. The underfloor heating is almost certainly in polypropylene pipes and it is a closed system so whatever liquid is in it (possibly just plain water)...

Re: MM2H visa in new passport - beware of changes; Nightmare

I mentioned on another thread (https://britishexpats.com/forum/retirement-mm2h-205/mm2h-approval-hope-919155/) that the programme was being transferred to Home Affairs but others disagreed. Looks...

Re: MM2H Approval Hope

MM2H applications and renewals are currently suspended while management of the programme is transferred from Tourism to Home Affairs. Probably only a short delay unless they decide to take this...

Re: Suspension Of Conversion of Foreign Driving Licence to Malaysia Driving Lice

I think the information in the blog is still accurate. I know someone who recently got their licence through Cathay and the cost was RM1,650 but the provisional licence now costs RM400.

Of course...

Re: HSBC tightening Premier Account eligibility?

Just in case anyone doesn't know it, HSBC gives a much better fx rate in-branch than it does in on-line banking.

Re: Streaming UK TV in Malaysia

These are the standard Google DNS servers but they don't bypass geo-blocking which you need to do for most UKTV streaming.

Re: Streaming UK TV in Malaysia

I haven't tried changing the DNS servers in my Samsung Smart TV so I can't comment on this but changing them in the router has the advantage that all your connected devices will use the proxy servers...

On this subject they don't reply so quickly - I've had apologies so far but no dosh.

Re: Streaming UK TV in Malaysia

I find it doesn't seem to make much difference, but I have set DNS 1 to Singapore and DNS 2 to Germany and it works fine.

Re: TransferWise Issues?

As you say the balance requirement at HSBC is RM200K but the MM2H deposit of RM150K is taken into account so it's not exactly expensive and it gives you Premier status worldwide, not just in...

Re: Internet in Penang

I had to switch from TIME to Unifi when I moved apartments. I paid a RM500 deposit to TIME (as they didn't have AutoPay at that time) and 6 months after terminating my contract they still haven't...

Re: TransferWise Issues?

TransferWise can only deliver MYR via domestic transfer to bank accounts based in Malaysia and currently they cannot send money from Malaysia.

Like many others here I use HSBC Premier global...

Re: Streaming UK TV in Malaysia

Hi Reg, what NH proposes is a great solution but it would be a bit of a struggle for a non-techie as you need to change the settings in your router and hack your TV. Routers are differ, some allow...

Re: MM2H Workshop August 9th, 2018 Putrajaya

Don't get too excited by this peeps, the workshop is for agents only, because they want to "teach" the agents how to submit good applications. It is not intended for the "announcement of any...

Re: what areas of Penang do most expats live?

I think the whole of that area is to be avoided for a few years - I was in Marina Bay which is already badly affected by noise and pollution associated with the construction. Same goes IMHO for...

Re: Stock market trading on Malaysian stcok exchange

I think the confusion is down to the concept of trading. If you are trading then capital gains and dividends would be taxable as income.
Generally the Malaysian tax authorities consider you are a...

Re: Retiring in Malaysia - Malaysia My Second Home Visa (MM2H)

Well we can at least agree that the MM2H visa confers the right to be tax-resident in Malaysia whereas a tourist visa (be it for Malaysia or elsewhere) does not.

Re: Retiring in Malaysia - Malaysia My Second Home Visa (MM2H)

It's a bit misleading to say that MM2H visa holders are tourists even if the programme is under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism and Culture. Generally speaking a tourist is a non-resident...

Re: Retiring in Malaysia - Malaysia My Second Home Visa (MM2H)

I am also of the view that the MM2H programme is way, way down the list of priorities for the new government and I would expect/hope that the much-vaunted MM2H changes will be put on hold until a...

Re: Change of Government After 61 Years

This is a slightly tricky subject for this forum (as SushiFan had pointed out) since MM2H'ers are supposed to refrain from political activism but clearly all the parameters are changing at the moment...

Thanks for reporting back on the MM2H presentation at E&O, merlinman. It seems the rumours, which have been circulating for some months are true, and the MM2H qualification criteria are being...

MM2H visa processing difficulties

I am hearing of more and more people waiting longer and longer (6 months +) for their MM2H visas. A friend tells me that 12 months is not unheard of.

I even heard of someone being refused MM2H...
