Re: GED/High School Diploma/Degree?

I know this thread is a couple of months old now, so apologies, but I think it's an extremely useful thread.

My observations from my first year in the USA:

1) In a good percentage of cases, a...

Re: Recommend phone cards from US landline to UK?

I use a $4.99 Skype subscription for unlimited calls from my smartphone data plan (or over Wifi) to UK landlines.
I just wished the plan was the same as the US one where you can call unlimited to...

Re: Courier question

The website tracking may reflect the delivery date before the SMS is received, so it's wise to keep checking that.
If you listed a number for the SMS, it should say on the invoice, along with your...

Re: Courier question

They leave a card for a failed delivery I believe, in order to re-arrange delivery; also you can try to contact them to get the delivery addressed changed.
If you do manage to get it changed to a...

Re: IR-1 visa questions.

Just as an aside; posters are stating the Green Card takes a few weeks after arrival... Why do the issued notes say 6 months?

Re: 6 months to move?

Your visa cannot be extended beyond it's validity. If you can't use it in time you have to return it to the issuing office.

You can reapply, however, your visa may only be reissued as per your...

Re: Interview Logistics

Holiday Inn @ Regents Square can be just over the £100 mark; is about 20 mins walk or a couple of tube stops.

Re: dx secure at us embassy urgent advice

I think they are bound to deliver to the address they are sent to and since they need proof of identity, it would most likely that number 4 contacting you for you to run down and sign for it....

Re: DCF Filing in London Timescale with Dual-Citizenship

Understood. Upon reflection, my wording was slightly ambiguous.

Re: DCF Filing in London Timescale with Dual-Citizenship

The passport proves only that they are permitted to; that was my point. They must have evidence have they are permitted to and have resided in the uk for 6 months.
My response must be taken in...

Re: DCF Filing in London Timescale with Dual-Citizenship

Actually, I concede that you are correct that USC'ship is not removed; my original point stands though - the US does recognise dual-nationality.

Re: DCF Filing in London Timescale with Dual-Citizenship

Proof of validity to reside to fulfil the 6 month criteria - that's what I said! ;)
Of course one must actually have resided in the UK for 6+ months; the passport proves lawful eligibility to do so.

Re: DCF Filing in London Timescale with Dual-Citizenship

...accepts... as evidence that a USC is permitted to, not evidence that they do.

Edit: I believe that in most cases, if a USC naturalises in another country, they are deemed to have given up...

Re: k1 interivew approved today !!

Congratulations Ben!

I think age differences are just one of those things that raise a flag in the process that they need to check into.
Nothing to hide - nothing to fear. :)

Re: DCF Filing in London Timescale with Dual-Citizenship

This is not entirely correct.
The US DO recognise dual-nationality and the USC having a UK passport can be used as proof of validity to reside in the UK to fulfil the 6-month criteria for a...

Re: Effect of USC becoming UKC, ballpark times and costs

I saw a similar thing mentioned in another thread, albeit in another context and context does matter.
In this case, being a dual national probably means little, but the US do recognise dual...

Re: USC attending interviews???

You're right; you can't go to whichever you want. They are cordoned off behind the security buildings.
USC services take the security booth to the left and can only go left; those requiring Visa...

Re: DCF Filing in London Timescale with Dual-Citizenship

I guess maybe the Olympics were assumed to have a negative effect on timelines and may have ultimately had the opposite effect due to staffing/vacations?

Re: DCF Filing in London Timescale with Dual-Citizenship

Current timelines appear to be just shy of 5 months, so 4-6 seemed very much correct IMO.

Re: Wait time between interview (approval) and receiving Visa?

I have also heard of (albeit rare) cases where the visa issued is incorrect or the 'mysterious brown envelope' is damaged, thus incurring a delay due to further interaction with the IV dept.
In...

I would want to take evidence that proves my bonafide marriage historically and current. It would be too easy for someone to assume in the run-up to the interview that two parties have participated...

Re: Getting the Vaccination Records out of the NHS

That may well be in true in some cases but there was a push many years ago to get the old records out onto computer and the files are usually sent from surgery to surgery even if you move surgeries...
