I agree with Garbatellamike. In southern Campania we have a 4+4 years contract and paid 2 months deposit plus an agency fee equal to 1 months rent.

On top of this we had to pay a years condominium...

Hi, I would go with your first option. As you say, buying a car here wont be possible without residency... plus the cost of cars is way more expensive here!
You may find it difficult "car-sitting"...

Hi, we have a TIM International sim card, but the call charges aren't good. I think it's about 24 cent a minute for calls (lanline or mobile) and 16 cent per text to the UK.
