We need a car for 3 months near Perugia this summer - what are our options?
Hello,
We are a couple living in London and have a house-sitting engagement or 3 months this summer (end June to end Sept) just outside Perugia which will require us to be independently mobile to get to the shops etc.
We do not have a car and so our options seem to be:
Buy a car in UK and drive to Perugia (long drive and not very environmental)
But a car in Italy (we don't have 6 months' residency)
Rent a car from rental company (uneconomic)
Or manifest a private rental from someone in Italy who has a spare car or who will be away for the summer and would like their car to be "car-sitted" in return for a fee.
Does anyone have any thoughts or ideas or suggestions?
Thank you!

Hi, I would go with your first option. As you say, buying a car here wont be possible without residency... plus the cost of cars is way more expensive here!
You may find it difficult "car-sitting" as the cost of Insurance is astonomical and people will be reluctant to risk this going up even higher.
Just a thought, but have you considered a moped? You might be able to find a good deal for a 3 month hire, plus it would be really cheap to run!
Good luck anyway!

I have a car... but MOT expires AUGUST 12TH....
In sicily its likely to go north end of this month as I have a lot of travel
So it might at least cover your first 6 weeks..
alfa 156, red, teledial wheels..smart looking car and bargain, best yet I can drop it off for you
Send me a pm if this might work for you

HI, I have a similar conundrum as I have a right hand Honda CRV in the UK which I would like to drive to Milan as I have heard conflicting advice regarding car prices some say its cheap and some say it is expensive. I will be a resident in Milan and not sure if registeration and maintenance costs will be quite high that it might be cheaper to buy car in Milan. How much a Honda CRV (2004) left hand drive model should cost in Milan to buy?
