Re: No more class II NICs for those living abroad

I presume that there is no action needed, that they will just stop taking the voluntary contributions (for those that pay via Direct Debit). I won't bother with the Class 3 as I'm just making up the...

Re: Home and garden projects

On their website they show an EVSE that ends in a normal 110V plug, which is only level 1. But I agree that they do also say 'level 2 Use the included Slate charging cable'. However this may just be...

Re: Home and garden projects

I highly recommend adding a level 2 EVSE rather than rely on any plugin one which tend to be 16A and auto-switching between 110/240V. Adding a 40A or 48A Level 2 EVSE, makes home charging so simple...

Re: US passport Office - excellent service

My son recently got his renewed and the old passport and old passport card were both sent separately much later than the new ones. Not sure why the old card/passport could not have come as one.

Re: WTH... WEP? Really?

Did Biden finally sign HR82? It is not showing up here: Legislation Archives | The White House. (https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/legislation/)6 days to go, or start over again.

Re: Dual US/UK Citizens - Make sure your UK Passport is valid if you want to vis

Does your UK passport need to be current? I see it says "Prove your permission to travel using your British passport," and not valid British passport.
I can easily expect that the airlines will want...

Re: Health Insurance PPO vs HMO

The HMO vs PPO may also depend on where you live. I have lived in both CA and WA, both in major cities, and have found Kaiser HMO to be a great option for my family. Just last night I was having an...

As Pulaski was writing his post about his college road trip, I was planning a West Coast version for my youngest, in mid August. A fast drive from Seattle to Berkely then stop at many more down to...

Re: Sea Cargo - Actual Restrictions?

The younger me, back in my mid 20's worried a lot about what to ship. After 5 international moves and then an interstate move, I am in the "Bin it all" camp, or just give it all away.

Re: Beef Oxo cubes. Yay, or nay?

Karo Light Corn Syrup, it works generally, but not in ginger bread.

Yes, I'm loving the maple syrup for waffles / pancakes / crepes and even porridge.

Re: Beef Oxo cubes. Yay, or nay?

You can buy them from multiple places online which specialize in British goods in the US.

Although for most recipes I would use a local equivalent, I do still have a soft spot for using OXO...

Re: Class 2 NI. What about us poor expats paying voluntary contributions?

I had a note that I would max out in 2022, but checking my record today it says I still need 3 more years to reach the 203.85, despite having 36 full years and 2 partial years (around university...

"Seattle" can be used to describe a large area with greatly different commute times.
Many families live on the Eastside, eg Sammamish, as you get safe & Family-friendly, with great schools.

I...

Re: Let's talk about cars

In Washington State you need to be able to reverse around a corner and even parallel park. The marking is fairly lenient, but it is closer to the UK test.

Re: UK vs US cost of living - has it balanced out for you?

Yes. It is that good. I pay nothing monthly and just $20 to see my primary doctor. So the main costs are due to dental, eg Invisalign for kids and other remedial dental work.

Re: UK vs US cost of living - has it balanced out for you?

It will depend on where you live and your lifestyle, I have only seen the West Coast, first San Diego and now Seattle area, and life here is expensive - but the pay more than compensates. Housing is...
