Depends on purpose I suppose - for drizzling over porridge maple syrup is an excellent native alternative.
But for treacle tart? No substitute for Tate & Lyle.
This is also something I find in speciality or British food stores relatively easily (albeit expensive).

Karo Light Corn Syrup, it works generally, but not in ginger bread.

Yes, I'm loving the maple syrup for waffles / pancakes / crepes and even porridge.
