Re: Well, here I am!

That would certainly make for an interesting trip. My redundancy payment should be coming in hopefully in the next six weeks max given I confirmed the last of the stupid questions to the Insolvency...

Re: Well, here I am!

Yeah there is a lot of prep work to do in between trying to keep myself sane with this new job. My old mate yeah we exchanged a few messages, and he read my last one but he hasn't responded yet -...

Re: Well, here I am!

Thanks for replying, I will start taking a look. In terms of figures, given the recent job implosion I have managed to rebuild just over £2k in savings over the last couple of months. I have the...

Well, here I am!

Its been a bumpy time for me as late, (please bear with me as this might be a tad long). Given recent events I have had a knock on the head and I am giving serious consideration to looking at Canada....

Re: Is Calgary going through significant pain and how will that affect other province

I heard that Suncor Energy is cutting 1000 staff and slashing $1 billion from their 2015 budget to balance the books. I'd say the drop in oil is biting.

Being in Aberdeen in the UK, its somewhat...

Re: Moving to Canada - Opinions (A bit long winded)

I work in IT, I'm a Systems Engineer with 7 and a bit years experience and a 2:1 Honors Degree.

Might be worth a shot when speaking with an employer, although I would have figured that only...

Re: Moving to Canada - Opinions (A bit long winded)

That is honestly the way I am feeling to be honest. I think the lure of offering to help buying a place in Aberdeen while appealing, does risk tying me down whatever happens is my opinion.

The...

Re: Where to start ?

I think they changed the immigration rules a few years back didn't they? My father was able to claim his Canadian citizenship because his father, my grandfather, was born in Canada. The High...

Re: Couple of Questions

Thanks for that Moses.

Another question: I have a car on a three year PCP agreement, but I have about 10 months left on the deal, having it over two and a bit years already. Would it be possible...

Re: Single on wrong side of 40 and thinking of moving to Ireland

Although I don't have any story to accompany this post, my advice would simply be, if you can do it and make it happen, then go for it :)

I'm in a similar situation at the moment, feeling very...

Re: Which passport to use?

Personal preference I would argue. If I am leaving the UK I go out on my UK passport and then use my Canadian passport upon arrival in Canada. Then when leaving Canada, leave on my Canadian, and...

Re: Just carrying on!! - Warning Long post :)

Working in IT can annoy the hell out of me sometimes, but it's biggest advantage is that it's a pretty generic industry, skills gained in the UK can be used in the same manner as Canada as they are...

Re: Just carrying on!! - Warning Long post :)

Saving aside money first before I can comfortably move across. Ideally I want to go with an offer in place but I want money set aside first. :)

Re: Just carrying on!! - Warning Long post :)

That is true, but being a citizen cuts out the visa process for me! I dont have any entry requirements to meet which makes it easier for a canadian employer to employ me if they wish.

Re: Just carrying on!! - Warning Long post :)

Well, an acceptable entry point would likely be Canada wide for the most part, as long as its not in Montreal/Quebec where a strong grasp of French would be needed, anywhere else be it Halifax in NS,...

Re: Just carrying on!! - Warning Long post :)

I always figured that salaries would be higher simply to the fact that Alberta is where all of Canada's oil is. Because of the booming oil industry and such, more money is generated. Its a bit like...
