Re: Need advice on primary schooling in Canada (Toronto)

It is interesting that Canada consistently ranks tops in the world for education, and yet those moving to Canada find that in the early grades their children are far ahead of Canadian students. My...

Re: Commuting from Barrie to Toronto

I agree that renting for a year is the way to go. One real benefit is that it gives you the time to learn the market and wait for the perfect house or great deal to come up. Having to pick a home...

Re: Commuting from Barrie to Toronto

For those who don't know, the wind almost always blows from the west or north west to the east. North and east of Barrie and area is Georgian Bay and Lake Huron. When the wind blows in the late fall...

Re: Commuting from Barrie to Toronto

That's very true, but the price of the average home in Toronto just reached $1 million. Most are then faced with quality of home vs quality of community vs commute time.

Re: Commuting from Barrie to Toronto

Bradford has long been a farming town. Not a lot to do in Bradford. However in recent years it's proximity to the city has resulted in large subdivisions and shopping plazas to be built. It would be...

Re: Commuting from Barrie to Toronto

Toronto is a big, sprawling city. If you work in the north central part, driving to and from Barrie isn't so bad.

If you work near the downtown core taking the train is a great option and you can...

Re: Winter tyres (or is that tires)

Having survived 35 Canadian winters, most with a 1 hour commute each way, this is the best piece of winter driving advice I have ever read.

I'd also add to this with "brake early and brake...

Re: Winter tyres (or is that tires)

First off, the real advantage of snows is that they are made of soft rubber, unlike all seasons which become hockey pucks when it gets cold. Tests show that on a dry surface, you'll stop 15 to 20...

Re: Is this small-townitis, or is this normal?

In light of the fact that this is your 26,851st post, your two points would appear to contradict one another.

My guess is that on this board you've learned a lot about the thoughts, opinions and...

Re: Is this small-townitis, or is this normal?

Not sure that I can agree with this one. With almost 50% of its population having been born outside of Canada, it's hard to support the claim that Torontonians do not think beyond their city.

I've...

Re: BBQ Help please!

No, cast iron is the way to go. The metal is soft so it transfers the heat evenly. A burger in the corner cooks at the same rate at one in the centre.

As mentioned, they will rust, but my secret...

Re: Sound Engineer Student thinking about moving to Canada.

The majority of movie and TV production in Canada is centered in Toronto, and to a lesser extent Vancouver. The industry overall has been doing quite well in the last four years.

Toronto is in...

Re: Toronto Only.

Americans tend to pronounce it "Toe-Ron-Toe".

Another variation, perhaps more redneck and less Bay street, would be "Trawna".

Common theme here is that the second "T" is silent.

Re: 220 volts for a garage?

Agreed, 120 volt shock will wake you up, 240 volt shock and we're talking very dangerous. This will be a common work for a licensed electrician.

Re: 220 volts for a garage?

Just to clarify, are you asking if he can bring his arc welder to Canada from the UK, or are you asking if installing a common 220 volt / 60hz circuit in a garage is possible?
