Re: Madareem Compound - Riyadh

I lived there for 3 months before transferring to Khobar. It's hardly a "compound," though they did beef up security a lot while I was there.

There's no bar or expat social scene there, so if...

Re: Considering a teaching job in Dhahran

There are plenty of young, single women here who get along pretty well. If you're situated in a nice compound and working for a reputable company/school, I think you'll be fine.

On the other hand,...

Re: Learning Arabic

An American coworker of mine speaks Arabic fluently and he uses it on a daily basis. I'm not sure why someone would tell you not to speak it. The only issue is when you begin a conversation with the...

Re: Saudi Drivers

I agree - it's not quite as severe as it sounds. Just takes a little time to get a feel for what's OK and what's not.

Also, I rented a car several times with only a US license through a local...

Re: Question regarding buying a 4x4 in Saudi

A coworker of mine recently purchased a Patrol from another expat. He said he just went to a local used car dealership, paid them a few hundred riyal, and they took care of everything for him.

Re: getting my iqama

I made this thread back in October. I'm still here, somehow, but our unbelievably awful company is in a world of trouble. They have a huge lawsuit, they're losing their contract and hemorrhaging...

Re: OSAMA BIN LADEN DEAD

This is good news, but even as a young American, I'm not really sure how to feel. Seeing the people dancing and celebrating in front of the White House made me really uncomfortable. I don't see how...

Re: Riyadh, but for 6 months only

You can get cars for much cheaper. The worst car you can rent (semi-banged up manual Accent or Aveo) is 1500 a month. You can get a brand new automatic for maybe 2200-2500.

Your issue might be...

Re: Mada'in Saleh Unesco Heritage Site, Al Ula, KSA - Anyone been?

I went during Hajj last year. I had a fantastic trip. So much history, from several different eras and different cultures, and most of it almost untouched. We had a great guide as well who I would...

If not, the one place I've found that is both reliable and that does not require a Saudi license is called Diplomat Rental. They have locations in Riyadh and...

Re: Riyadh: Cigars and Shoes
