As far as I’m aware, once a visa holder is out of country for more than 6 months the residence visa is invalidated - not cancelled. (This was the case when we lived in Dubai pre 2012 and in Oman...

Medical/health cover for the family. Being unwell, let alone seriously ill, can be extremely expensive. Don’t forget that there’s no NHS - everything has to be paid for.
