Re: Credit cards etc on return to UK?

Re: Credit cards etc on return to UK?

I've also heard that about store cards. They're supposed to be stupidly easy to get, but you'll still need to have a confirmed address (driving license, utility bill, electoral roll), a current...

Re: Credit cards etc on return to UK?

I think your chances of getting a Visa or Mastercard are *very* slim as you'll have no relevant credit rating. There is, as far as I know, no link between UK and non-EU credit agenices.

Re: Shipping

I shipped an '85 Strat and a 50-year old classical in ABS hard cases and both came through unscathed. Flight cases are really only needed for airline baggage mishandlers. For going on a...

Re: Anyone use a pet shipping company in Toronto to ship pets back to the UK

Hamilton, eh? Whereabouts? We just left Hamilton after nearly 7 years. Small bloody world!

Only been back a week so far - my job-hunting starts tomorrow. The market looks good at the moment, but...

Re: Things to do before leaving Canada

I can't beleive the cost of car insurance here! It's scarily cheap. I just payed £266 for a year's insurance on a Volvo V70 which is less than a quarter what my last policy in Canada cost. And...

Re: Shipping

When I moved to Canada 8 years ago, we only came over with boxes - videos, books, CDs, couple of guitars, that sort of thing, and we used Excess Baggage (www.excess-baggage.com...

Re: Things to do before leaving Canada

Don't worry about taxes. You will have to fill out a 2010 tax return next year, so keep your T4s. You may even geta refund!

A Canadian license can be used in the UK for up to a year after arriving...

Re: Anyone use a pet shipping company in Toronto to ship pets back to the UK

Hi - sorry if I'm a bit late with this one.

We used Ladyhaye (www.petravelagent.com (http://www.petravelagent.com/)), who are based in Shoreham - they took care of everything and it cost under...

Re: Types of packing boxes

Yeah, it's an insurance thing. We did all our own packing in plastic totes and U-Haul boxes. We saved a bunch of money by packing it ourselves, but they won't insure it for all risks, only total...

Re: Rabies testing time line

Tom,

We've just gone through this procedure ourselves. The sixth months quarantine counts from the day the blood test is taken by the vet, irrespective oif how long the results take to get back.

Re: Canada to UK Removal Companies info Please

First I went to www.intlmovers.com (http://www.intlmovers.com/) and my request for a quote went to a whole bunch of companies. Most of them replied and I spoke to a few over the phone.

But now I...

Re: Canada to UK Removal Companies info Please

We settled on Focus Moving. They quoted $4980 for our 750 cu. ft, sharing a 20' container. Not only were they the best price, they have the quickest delivery estimate quoting 3-4 weeks, rather than...

Re: Canada to UK Removal Companies info Please

Well, I got a quote from Crown this morning of $9,830 which is damn near $3,000 more than Brytor/Brtiannia. Ouch!

I have a few more companies to hear back from, but suddenly Britannia don't look...

Trouncer, I'll let you know any news as and when I get it. I'd also be interested in hearing what rate you get from Brytor.

I've also put in for a quote from Crown, so we'll see what they have to...

Re: Canada to UK Removal Companies info Please

Hi all,

Were moving from Hamilton, ON back to Britain in a few weeks. We had a quote from Britannia for £3,500 for 700 cu. ft of posessions, which is about 10' of container space I reckon. Brytor...
