Default Canada to UK Removal Companies info Please

As we are exploring the idea of returning to the UK from Canada I would like to ask for members experience, costs and recommened removal companies anyone has used to ship their household belongings back to the UK from Canada in the Maritime region.

We brought a 40ft container and would prob need the same to return.

Any help and info would be a great help thanks.

We were in TORonto, ONtario and moved to UK last summer, used a 20ft container in Aug/09 cost $8230.00 quoted me alot more but i got two quotes from another shippers. WE thought we would try to cram everything into a 20fter and buy what else we needed in England.

We used MI Group...and rung up Tippet Richardson...I hear their prices have gone up alot.

My mum is going to use Tippet this time in a few mths as MI quoted her $8000g's for a 1bed apartment. and the other is quoting her $3g's...OUCH!

Hope that helps..although not quite a 40fter. but most likely looking at 10,000 and up$$$

Hi thanks for the reply,

Yes all info is a great help. When you move UK to Canada you know all the UK based companies but never do any reserch on moving the other way as you would think you dont need them.

Will give MI & Tippet a call to get some idea of prices.

Thanks again.

One thing you may consider is contacting a local company at where you are moving to in the UK (ideally one you know or that is recommended). They will likely have arrangements with a Canadian company. The great advantage would be that when your stuff arrives in the UK you will be dealing with someone local and things like storage etc will be easier.

We moved from Norwich to Toronto and used a local UK mover who arranged it all, and was cheaper. They were simply partnered with a major Canadian company.

This is a great suggestion, for example we work with a company called UniGroup Worldwide UTS Canada who are in our network and they provide our destination services and we provide theirs. If you know the process of moving out there you'll have picked up the things that were important to you from a mover and it's likely that a UK mover will work with a partner of a similar level of quality to theirs.

You could also try looking at the FIDI membership directory www.fidi.com to find a Canadian mover that has the quality accreditation to demonstrate their credibility and level of service as this is the largest internationally recognised standard in the moving industry.

Good luck!

Kirsty

We used Crown relocations - well happy with them, they even met us on the way to the airport to collect a couple of pictures that were left behind an open door, now that's service!!!

An affiliate of United Van Lines has quoted us C$8115 for a 20' container and C$10360 for a 40' from Vancouver Island. This includes international wrap.

Anyone used a removal company from Vancouver ? I live downtown. I used Tippet & Richards to get here and was going to use them again but just wondered if anyone recommends anyone else ?

I have a 2 bed condo. Any idea approx. how much it would be to ship to Sheffield or Manchester ?

Also, what happens when the Canadian company ships it to the UK. I assume they have a counter UK company take over the removal (eg. Whites ? Bishops ? etc.). Although these UK companies do storage, has anyone used storage companies like 'Big Yellow Shelf' or someone similar ? Were they any cheaper ? or better ? I'm assuming the UK removals company would deliver and unload to these companies who are (in effect) rivals for storage ?

Any usefult comments welcome and appreciated. - Thanks

I've had a quote from Bekins who were recommended to me. We don't have enough for a full 20ft container, (10ft approx), so we will fill up others. They have quoted us $4500 and 2% will be insurance. I was amazed how much stuff we could take for that price and I can fill up a large wardrobe with clothing and bedding.

Let me know how you get on.
