Morning all,

We are having our cat prepared to go from Canada to the UK. We where told that it will take 2 months in order to get test results back! Is this normal? I know it takes 6 months from the date of a clear test before you can take them home but 2 months to get a result seems a long time to me. Anyone had any experience?

We are having our cat 'prepared' to go out to Gibraltar but are having his blood test now in case we have to return. Our vet is turning the results round in 7 days, so maybe its something to do with the vet??

thanks very much for the reply! In north america there are only 2 approved labs so it could just be yours is so fast because every lab in the uk is approved? Not sure though just a guess! At the very least it tells us the test doesn't actually take any more than a week!

We've just gone through this procedure ourselves. The sixth months quarantine counts from the day the blood test is taken by the vet, irrespective oif how long the results take to get back.

We actually screwed up our timing, and had to move across before the six months were done, and our cat is able to finish his quarantine (7 weeks) in the UK.

Sometimes, the system works pretty well and doesn't try to screw you over!

Ditto to what Flange said, plus you should search the Wiki for "DEFRA" and you will find a detailed description of the process that answers a lot of questions like this that wil come up as you go through the PETS travel scheme.

Hi Dunroving. Thanks for your reply. I had been looking at the process on the WIKI i was unaware the 6 months was in relation to the test been taken. Defra seems to say something along the lines of "upon a satisfactory test result" or something like that anyway. Ether way it's good news for me that its from the date the test is taken!
