I think what happened last october when Lehman went bust, the carry trade unwound and pount hit 2.70 (onl for a matter of hours) is one of the wosrt tngs for most migrants. This was a freak occurance...

How can you say 1.50 is overvalued when we sat in a range of 1.43-1.52 for about 3 years! and from the conception of the Euro up into 18months back we had never been below 1.38!

The Bo of E is supposed to set interest rates solely to keep inflation at a target of 2% (with a margin of 1% either side) However in the US the Fed are targetted on growth and inflation. It could be...

Interest rates arent determined by the government, thay are set by the Bank of England which is an 'independant' body, although how independant is difficult to say!!

I'm sorry but saying that you "lost" £35,000 of house value fomr the peak isnt realistic, in truth most peple have actually gained a fortune on their property fomr twhen they originally bought it....

The issue is that you are looking at the GBPNZD rate, they dont export to much to the UK, so the NZDUSD is key to exports.

I agree to a point that the realtime trading rate has a direct correlation, everyone is buying at the same rate. I think what JLFS means is that you cant compare the spreads that gambling sites...

I would agree with Meow. Whilst forex trading looks attractive, if your dont know what you are doing you WLL lose a fortune. 90% of those that spreadbet on currency end up losing money.

ozziedream i would say that where rates are tathe moment is a 15 year higher as far as the ozzie is concerned, if you are going to be moving back it is a great time to be securing your exchange rate.

Hawthord, that is a cery big gap, 1.12 is errible. For a fair comparison yu will need to login to your HIFX site, as that .118 displayed on frontpage is the interbank rate, where the market trades...

I use Cornhill FX www.cornhillfx.com they always give a really tight rate, about 1 cent from the interbank on about £10k and closer for larger amounts. I also have my own broker that i can always get...

JC if you are transferring a large amount then you should speak to them directly rather than do it online, you will be able to get a better spread, as over 2cents is a very big chunk. I used to use...
