Re: Options for urgent travel with no Canadian passport

Thanks! We do have a walk-in passport office nearby. It's not open until Monday, but I don't think he's likely to travel tomorrow anyway, so he'll probably try the passport office and see how quickly...

Options for urgent travel with no Canadian passport

We had our citizenship ceremony 4 weeks ago, but haven't applied for passports yet. My husband needs to travel to the UK asap due to a serious family illness, but since he doesn't have a Canadian...

Re: Our 5 year anniversary

Congrats on your 5-year anniversary! I bet the rain this week is reminding you of your arrival in 2012! Great to hear you've bought a house.

Re: Leaving Vancouver for small town BC

Yeah, Langford would definitely be a shorter drive, but the road to Sooke is twisty and busy, with few places to overtake. I agree that the town of Sooke isn't very exciting, but if microbreweries...

Re: Leaving Vancouver for small town BC

Just noticed that you'd asked about Sooke too. The scenery is beautiful in Sooke and the houses are much more affordable than in Victoria (and way more affordable than Vancouver!). The road into...

Re: Leaving Vancouver for small town BC

I live in Victoria, so we're in the "big" city. This is our fifth year here and I really love it, but we moved from London, so it took a while to get used to living in a much smaller city.

Things...

Re: Leaving Vancouver for small town BC

I've no real experience, but Cumberland is a lovely little town. We drove through it a couple of weeks ago and they're building quite a few decent-sized new houses for under 500k, many with...

Re: Visiting victoria

I live in the Jubilee area, not far from Oak Bay, and love it. (East of downtown.) I'm not keen on driving (have a licence, but barely drive at all!), and I can walk to the local supermarket, rec...

Re: kids Brit passports run out need to return to UK

I had to renew my son's passport last year when we'd been here less than 2 years. I sent the photos and form back to a friend in the UK to countersign.

Re: Voting in the UK election

I registered before the deadline (at least, I'd assumed it was the deadline, as it was on an FCO announcement to international voters to register by 20 April), then received a letter a week later...

Re: Celebrity sightings.

I can confirm Peter Andre was in Whistler! I spotted him near the village gondola a couple of days ago wearing a bobble hat.

John McEnroe was in the customs queue next to us at LAX the week before...

Re: letter of reference from uk bank

We had to get a letter from RBS. I think they just said we were customers of good standing, or something similar. They were happy to do it, but did miss the date off the first letter, so we had to...

Re: Moving to Victoria BC lots of questions ?

No need to make an appointment to get your BC licences. Just turn up. When I had mine renewed recently, I didn't have to wait at all (went on a weekday morning).

I have no idea about mixed martial...

Re: Moving to Victoria BC lots of questions ?

As rivingtonpike says, where you live depends on what you're into and what your budget is. We started out in the Mount Tolmie/UVIC area, which has lots of families, but just wasn't for us, as we'd...

Re: Visiting Van Island for me holidays!

We did have Safeway until a couple of months ago! They were bought out by Sobeys, but because Sobeys also own Thrifty's, they had to sell off some of the Safeway stores to Save on Foods.

Yup, if...

Re: UK Passport application from Canada

The online status always says "declaration received, processing". From what I've heard, it often doesn't change to printed/dispatched until you've actually received the passport! It would just be...

Re: UK Passport application from Canada

I applied for a child renewal in April and phoned today, as it was past the four-week mark (the original timescale). The call centre couldn't tell me a thing, but did say the timescale was now "at...
