Re: UK to NZ to UK and back again...

I must have seen this a hundred times now, but don't have any answers for you, sorry. The grass is not greener on the other side. The queue you move into instantly goes slower than the one you were...

re: North and South islands - Climate Advice & wher to live for lifestyle

Hawke's Bay maybe? I've always thought that would be a great place to live.
Friend just moved to New Plymouth - that seems to tick a lot of boxes.
Otherwise, you could consider Taupo or Rotorua?...

AA Insurance for me. Off to Oz in a couple of weeks, very reasonable.

Re: Visa / passport questions

I would clarify that as I understand it, it's not so much about citizenship, but it does depend on passports. If you are a NZ citizen but travel into NZ on a different passport - ie a UK passport,...

Re: NZ Super increasing to 20 years residency?

I think this is fair enough. I'd have thought it reasonable to have to meet a 20 year rule even if the reciprocal agreement didn't apply. Would think that a person receiving a pension in a country...

Re: Should we move to NZ?

Isn't this the plan though? They are still training NZ teachers. A beginning teacher will usually only get a years contract, but I'm not sure for an experienced teacher from another country - you'd...

Re: North shore - unaffordable dream?

You are seriously mis-informed here.

If you bought property in North Shore in 2007, it will be worth approximately 1 million dollars more now in 2018 than you paid for it. Add in paying off ten...

Re: North shore - unaffordable dream?

True. Those people could sell up and walk away with a million dollars if they wanted to now.

Re: North shore - unaffordable dream?

If you are bringing over a lump of money to put down against a house and happy to service a decent size mortgage that you can afford on your wages, you'll be fine. House prices will rise and if you...

Re: Relocating - recommendations in Northland?

I could happily live on the coast south of Whangarei - close enough to go up to the city, and only 1.5hrs down to Auckland for visits.

Re: Auckland or bust by xmas: districts to rent a house

I've heard that Buckland Beach is a nice place to live, and Half Moon Bay.

Re: Auckland or bust by Xmas: Banks?

ASB is alright, does all the basics OK. It's an Aussie owned bank so a bit pushy if you have to interact with staff. I don't like going in to a branch for the reason they try to sell you things all...

Re: Pension question

Thanks.
Employer is currently contributing 10% of my wage. If I joined kiwisaver, their contribution would have to be split down to 7% and they'd pay 3% into my kiwisaver. I'd get the government...

Re: WAIN

I know you make a joke of it, but this is the situation we are faced with now. It's got significantly worse in the last couple of years (although it's never been fabulous). Record breaking rainfall...

So, we had a beautiful day in Auckland on Saturday - one out of the box - but boy do you have to pay for those up here in Auckland... the rain the last 24hours has been relentless, again. It's like...

Re: Negotiating on a property

True.
But if they had a fixed fee arrangement the agent might not be so sniffy about the offer?

This, absolutely.
They are only in it for themselves. Higher the selling price, higher their own pay-out.

Re: Finding after a month in the uk

I take it you've never ventured to the Avondale market then? I think it is Sundays only, but it is massive. The fruit and vegetables is mind boggling. Not sure about meat there though... I don't...

Re: Salary equivalents between UK and NZ

Mmmmmwhahahahahahahaha. That is hilarious. The temperature in the UK in summer can get a LOT hotter than it does here in Auckland (that's where you're considering living, yes?). And "summer" here -...
