Just so you know when i applied (as the wife of an L1 visa holder) for my SSN i had to wait until i got my EAD to do this. Unless your wife has no intention whatsoever of working whilst over here...

We just used our visa to rent a car. For buying you can pay either the whole lot or the deposit by cheque but for us, it had to be from a bank account in the US (which we had) but i am not sure...

If only, i took our marriage cert, my birth cert, my passport with my visa, something to prove where i lived etc etc and they would not even look at the form unless i had my EAD and we checked...

We got here a month ago with my hubbys L1 visa (i am L2). Hubby waited 10 days (not working days just 10 days) from the day we arrived then went down to the local SSN office with all his docs....

Final update on this...........we got our passports back today (this morning) yay so thats us now..............3 days to flight so might just get repacked today and then take the children...
