Re: Lisarow, Central Coast

We're in Avoca Beach, so just around the corner from you really. I'm assuming you're already in Oz so you probably know everything already, but feel free to drop me a PM if you have any questions. :)

Re: Self-employed on WHV?

Thanks tking, that's what I would call good advice, i.e. actual suggestions rather than just saying "it's unlikely you'll be approved". We are planning now, and have been for months, but people on...

Re: Student Loans to be fully repaid before application to emigrate?

That's right, I have student debts from going to uni but I'm thick enough to have walked up to the customs desk and declared that I was going to overstay my visa and/or had a WHV for purposes of deep...

Re: Self-employed on WHV?

You're right, I was given good advice by you, which answered my original questions. No, I won't get kicked out for breaking the temporary work rule, but apparently I will get kicked out when my de...

Re: Self-employed on WHV?

The "free advice" I was given before was that it would be "unlikely that you would have significant evidence proving that you were in a fully-fledged de facto relationship on the day of arrival",...

Re: Self-employed on WHV?

When I saw that I'd had a reply from George Lombard I knew I'd be in for some doom and gloom.

It might not be a good option but it's the only one we have. I can't magic extra time out of thin...

Re: Lisarow, Central Coast

I haven't been on here for a while so I've only just seen your post, don't know if you're still looking for information. My boyfriend grew up in Lisarow, his parents still live there. If there's...

Re: Self-employed on WHV?

1. Phew!

2. Sounds complicated but I'm sure I'll be fine. (Unless it turns out like the first episode of Black Books!)

Unfortunately not; we hadn't lived together until I arrived here so...

Re: Student Loans to be fully repaid before application to emigrate?

Just to follow up my previous posts in this thread, I got a letter a few weeks ago from the SLC saying that I don't need to make any repayments for 12 months. I assume this is because I'm on a WHV...

Re: That 'choice' thing in supermarkets ...

I think food shopping is far better here than in the UK. We go to Harris Farm Markets for our fruit and veg, Coles for everything else, and we have a fab shop called George's Fruit Barn which sells...

Self-employed on WHV?

Hi all,

I've been in Oz for two and a half months now, came over to live with my Aussie boyfriend and intend to apply for a de facto spouse visa just before my WHV runs out, so I'm quite settled...

Re: Student Loans to be fully repaid before application to emigrate?

I noticed this yesterday on the link that I posted - http://www.slc.co.uk/thresholds/index.html - but the penny's only just dropped: the repayment threshold for people living in Australia is now...

Re: Complete Clearout - All Gone Bar my memories Upstairs?

I'm going out on a WHV on Thursday, with the intention of applying for a spouse visa when my year is up, and just taking what I can fit in my cases. Leaving my books and CDs at my parents' house and...

Re: Student Loans to be fully repaid before application to emigrate?

I'm not recommending it either, just saying that I don't think everyone is as diligent about contacting the SLC before going overseas.

Re: Student Loans to be fully repaid before application to emigrate?

There is info here: http://www.slc.co.uk/thresholds/index.html

I filled in the form and sent them a letter detailing my situation (going over on a WHV but will probably stay longer) and said that...

Why is Perth so popular with Brits?

I'm heading to Oz in a couple of weeks on a WHV and pretty much every time I tell someone, the conversation goes like this:

"Whereabouts are you going?"
"Central Coast NSW."
"Where's that?"...

Re: Proposed Evidence List for De Facto Spouse Visa

Thanks for sharing your contents page Ben, that is really useful. I'll be applying for the same visa in about a year and seeing it all written down like that makes it seem like an achievable task!...

I have an annual policy with Insure and Go, who also trade as Cheaper Travel Insurance. I've just called them and they said that the maximum length of trip is 31 days, so I would be covered for the...

Re: Young Couples!

Oh I'm not suggesting staying longer than 6 months with an employer, I know what the rules are and I'm far too much of a goody-two-shoes to break them!

I'm hoping to get some temp work/maternity...

Re: Young Couples!

Pumpkin, what do you think my chances are of getting a decent job (i.e. not in a shop or a bar - I'm not good with the public!) while on a WHV and living on a permanent basis with my Aussie boyfriend...

Re: British Airways Additional Baggage

I booked with Qantas, but the first part of my flight is a codeshare, Manchester to Heathrow on BA. Their baggage allowances are quite different, I'll have to give them a call to find out which...
