Re: Can you study for GCSE'S whilst in Canada

I paid a British comprehensive which is registered to sit the IGCSE exams (Caldicot College, near Newport in south Wales). If I remember rightly, the cost per exam is around 150 GBP, but I registered...

Re: Can you study for GCSE'S whilst in Canada

We moved back to the UK 6 months ago, for my daughter to take GCSEs.
She studied the International version (IGCSE), as we couldn't get work assessed.
Edexcel is the best known IGCSE organisation -...

It took me 19 months to find a job. I have over 20 years experience in marketing/ communications/ web copywriting, and have SEO/ PPC experience.
I have 2 bachelor's degrees, plus specialist...

2 and a half years later, and the Canadian dream is over - so what would I change?

Our house in Canada sold today, and my OH flies back to the UK on Saturday to join the rest of us.
The snow-blower is sold, most of our furniture has gone to the tip or to the recycling store, and...

Re: Considering moving back to the UK!

I've been back in the UK for 4 months now, after 2 years in northern Ontario. I am loving life back in the UK. There are things from our Canadian life that I miss - like sitting on the bleachers in...

Re: Travelling pets from Canada to UK

Just as an update on this post.
Our 2 dogs and 3 cats all travelled well and are none the worse for their flight.
My husband dropped them off in Toronto about 4 hours before the flight.
There was...

Re: Travelling pets from Canada to UK

It is a bit of a confusing process, and I wanted to make sure we got it all right, so I contacted DEFRA a few months ago and asked them for confirmation of exactly what we needed to do.
I had a...

Travelling pets from Canada to UK

Hi all. I post quite often in the Canada forum, but thought it might be useful for someone if I post this here.
Our 2 dogs and 3 cats fly out of Toronto tomorrow, arriving in Heathrow on Sunday...

Re: Orbit International Movers, Toronto - opinions?

Thank you - I had a suspicion this was too good to be true. I've checked the BBB site, and have quotes from a couple of firms that are listed, so we'll go with one of those.

Orbit International Movers, Toronto - opinions?

Has anyone had any experience of Orbit International Moving Logistics removals people in Toronto? I have a good quote from them for moving from North Bay back to the UK - not sure if it is too good....

Re: Flying back to the UK on Saturday - What to expect?

Yes, I appreciate that sounds bad when you put it like that.
Isn't it surprising what you actually miss? ;)
Or am I on my own here? Yes? Ah well....

Re: Flying back to the UK on Saturday - What to expect?

I've been back in Wales since May, and the things I've re-discovered most happily are pubs, complete strangers who will chat and laugh and be generally sociable in queues (not line-ups), people...

Re: UK life, post-Canada

I'm originally from London too. Cardiff is a vibrant, busy and growing city. Lots going on, lots of improvements made. The rough parts have been tidied up, even since we left 2 years ago. I love it....

Re: UK life, post-Canada

Thank you all for your very kind and positive comments.
There are of course regrets - we really wanted to make it work in Canada, but even though it didn't work for us, we have built some fantastic...

Re: We're going back

Lol. Well, North Bay could never be described as a pretty town, and it isn't too hot on the shopping front, but it is in the middle of some very unspoiled bush.
Hours and hours of unspoiled bush....

Re: We're going back

Thank you so much - we know that going back isn't necessarily the easy thing to do, just like moving to Canada in the first place wasn't the easy thing to do. At least we'll know we've lived :)

Re: Flying dog out with us, quoted £1800!!!!

I would not consider wasting your money on a pet transport company.
It is not difficult to 'do it yourself'.
You have to satisfy the pet passport/ vaccinations/ fit to fly etc requirements, which...

Re: We're going back

Yes I remember ;)
The lack of jobs - and living in a bubble 20 years behind the times - is worse than the shad flies.
Maybe we would have been OK if we'd lived further south.
Anyway, thank you....

We're going back

Well, it's been a tough couple of years. Nothing seems to have gone well since we've been in Ontario. Everything has been a compromise, a challenge, and a test.
It took more than 19 months for me...

Re: 2007 queue - where are we up to?

Hi guys,
As one of the 'lucky' 2007 queue who made it out to Canada last year, just wanted to offer my best wishes to those still waiting.
For what it's worth, I haven't been able to get a job in...

Re: British expressions that confuse Canadians

OMG! No wonder I've been getting all these odd looks when I said I had to do the hoovering for our open house!
