+1 and the harder it is to get employment, as you have no 'recent' experience.

Having been in the military for 27 years my previous experience in a civilian job will not count towards any recent experience for any civilian job, so in my case I am already at the end of the line up regardless of how long I leave it. I would even struggle to get a job at Tim Hortens or Walmart, so I am in no rush, time doesn't really matter to me. Still looking though.

Regards

Andrew

I'm a software developer too (Oracle/JDE).

With good C# experience and a decent resume you will not have any trouble finding work in the GTA, there's a dearth of IT professionals here in most areas.

FWIW I had two job offers within a week of landing (couple of years ago now though), but I'm just lucky to be in a field that's much in demand.

It took me 19 months to find a job. I have over 20 years experience in marketing/ communications/ web copywriting, and have SEO/ PPC experience.
I have 2 bachelor's degrees, plus specialist marketing qualifications.
I managed to get a few contracts as a freelance photographer, but couldn't get any job in any capacity in any office.
I was eventually offered shift work in a call centre.
I have been back in the UK for 6 months. I was offered a Marketing Management job after 5 weeks.

Well I've been in Canada 10 years now, and when i first moved to Toronto and i managed to get a job in 2 days... fast forwarding to 2013 - I got laid off in March and I've been unable to find anything decent! I have almost 9 years Financial Service Experience ( back and middle office) - its a tough market here, the key is networking! Canadians don't share alot , so get out there and get talking to people... i know i am!

Wow, that is hard to digest. Seems like qualifications don't mean much to some employers?

Even with Canadian experience, you are finding it hard to get a decent job?
Have you tried outside Toronto yet?

Has any of you experienced much luck in finding work in Toronto, while applying from a different province ?

For financial security, I will be staying at my in laws in Montreal ( until I find work ), but will be applying for jobs in Toronto. I was wondering if that may delay the process of finding employment?

I've been looking in the suburbs of Toronto and even our west in Alberta but most finance related positions are based in Toronto, some people may judge me for this but my whole life in Ontario and Quebec, for me to move out west would mean uprooting again and starting from scratch.

What line of work are you in?

It definitely is a tough situation, but I am sure with your experience, it won't be too long now. Good luck!

That didn't take too long for you then

However, my heart is set on Toronto. I am a big city girl actually, so only a big city can keep me happy. Sigh.

Yes fingers crossed, My ex works in a similar field to you and has always found it easier to find work, so maybe you'll have luck here, when are you planning on moving here?

Took me 6 months to find a job in my field and at a level that reflected my experience.

It took my company 6 months from interview to offer despite telling me on phone immediately after interview I had the job.....I nearly told them to stick it when they contacted me 6 months later but ended up saying make it a bloody good offer, it was.

I recently took promotion to run my team now.

I actually had three offers in same week.....like buses.
