To many variables and a lot of luck. If you work in the right field you will have no problems, Took me less than a week to get mine as a engineer in Alberta, took a friend 2 days as a mining electrician and yet it's taken others months to get work in simple store work.

13 years and I still haven't had a Canadian payslip or, indeed, any sort of payslip.

They employ their own trades and as an example are actually in Ireland next week to recruit.

I'm actually starting with them in 2 weeks time as a manager in BC.

I am a C# Developer (with CMS experience). I have around 3 years of experience. Masters degree holder.

To be honest, I am not as worried for myself as for my boyfriend. He thinks that there are not many trade jobs in Toronto. I am quite flexible trying out different technologies (if given an opportunity).

Did you apply for jobs before you moved to Toronto? Or was it a company transfer?
Company transfer. I think you'd probably find something quicker than 3 months, especially if you go contracting rather than look for permanent, but it would be dangerous to assume that and then risk running out of money for example. I can't comment on trade jobs though.

5 weeks (in I.T, in the Toronto area).

Be careful of agents/employers who will take advantage of your inability or reluctance to answer the 'What are your salary expectations ?' question. Too many feed off classic immigrant angst to get a job, any job, first.

My first boss said they got a bargain when I joined (he implied I came in at 15% under salary budget for that role).

We came over on a TWP, so no issue, and he still works there. He's got a fairly specialised job though, so to be fair, if there's a company that employs people in his role, most would take on another person if they can.

In 8.5 years, all I was able to get was crappy retail jobs, and not one of those for 5 years now. I've not applied for a lot since having children though, but haven't got anything either.

That's awesome! Will tell my boyfriend

Though, not sure if there are many IT jobs in that area.

Good luck with your new job!

Absolutely right. We will take enough money with us, just in case.

In fact, we are thinking of going there for a holiday first and try our luck. Would move, only if we are able to get work there.

That is really good. What sort of engineer are you?

I didn't think companies would even interview those who are overseas? Good to know that there are some exceptions
