Re: University Options for A PGCE(Postgraduate certificate of education)

Not sure, but they announced it at some point during our course. All I know is that the course we're doing, although only a 1 year full-time course, it's 18 months worth of material. Maybe people...

Re: University Options for A PGCE(Postgraduate certificate of education)

You're absolutely right. I think that next year will be the last 1 year Graduate Diploma's and Bachelor of Teaching.

I'm currently studying for the BTeach at UTS (Sydney) and really enjoying it...

Re: HiFi/Home theatre/electronics bod needed

If you were in Sydney I'd send my husband over. Other than that I know that Dick Smith do have a service that does that kind of thing, couldn't possibly comment on their ability to do it though!!!

Re: University fees

As PR I have a commonwealth supported place and am paying between $400 and $700 per unit of my course. If I didn't have PR each unit would be $2000-3000. Funnily enough, also education, but just the...

Re: Do I need to declare UK income I earned before moving here?

Definitely don't need to declare it. We did and then had to lodge an amendment to claim it back. Was nice to get the rebate eventually, but would have been nicer to have had it from the beginning.

Re: GCSE Equivilent in Australia

It is still important to list your GCSE's to prove that you have the basic English and maths requirements, for example. The HSC that people sit in NSW includes a lot of subjects some of which are...

Re: family of 4 moving to Sydney, where do we start looking?

I love Berowra / Berowra Heights. It's definitely got a village feel, you always bump into people you know at the shops. Schools are great and it's nice and green with lots of bush walks around. My...

Re: Why have they taken tax off my husband

You can use the e-tax, it won't be able to auto fill your details for the first year or submit electronically, but you can print it out at the end and post it off.

Re: Why have they taken tax off my husband

We arrived on the 30th October, so got the whole of October's allowance thanks to arriving two days before November! Great stuff. All automatically calculated.

Re: schooling

If you were to come over on a temporary visa you would have to pay an extra $4000+ per year on top of the voluntary and other contributions that the others have mentioned. As long as you're PR...

Re: How has your family life changed for the better since emigrating?

Our lives have changed for the better, but we really needed a change. My husband works the same hours but has a much longer commute so he leaves before 7am and gets back after 7pm during the week,...

What about a post office box in the suburb you're moving to? I'm sure that loads of travellers have things sent that way when they're over here and our neighbour used to have all of her mail sent to...

Re: Visa label?

Good plan, they ask to see it for all kinds of things. School, uni, employment. It's definitely nice to have the visual aid of the sticker once you're here.
