You just threw a lot of money down the drain.

Even if he wants to move family in he still has to give you 12 months notice from the end of your contract. Not at any time!

http://www.dubailand.gov.ae/english/...s/Law%2033.pdf

Look at article 25 and towards the end, following clause 2. 12 full months.

By the way keep a firm eye on your old place. He's not allowed to rent the property for two years following your eviction so if it's obvious new tenants have moved in you can take him to RERA and file a case against him and get some money back.

Fair enough, probably a smart move.

Not sorted, he wants to move family in, giving me two months back and we're moving after holiday.

Bit of a pain but managed to force the mrs to take housing allowance so my actual costs have halved!

I would have done the same - dickhead of a landlord then best out of it. The rules are difficult to enforce when it comes to moving family in etc...

I know, I know, but what's the point in fighting it?

I really cannot be ****ed with it.

The move has cost me 34,500 AED in rent and fee and deposit.
I get to live in the same building.
I get a different view (Khalifa and fountains is a nice change).
Given the cost, my next 12 months rent will have saved me 30,500 AED.

Therefore, by not arguing and fighting, I've saved 30,500 + he's giving me two months rent back, so I get that too (11,000ish + deposit, let's say half = 12-13,000ish).

He also gave me a bottle of rum.

He also asked me nicely and explained and had me round for dinner and a lot of vodka. He's a nice enough chap and they've left me alone.

Change isn't a bad thing and I just can't be bothered to fight. THe money saving was appealing too.

If he just rents it out again though I might cause a shit storm just for a laugh.

Re: The Ramadan Arms

You only saved money because your missus moved in with you, correct? Are you moving into a 2-bed? If you wanted a bigger place I can see the willingness to move.

Looks like the landlord did the classic let's get the tenant drunk so he'll feel generous and think he's doing me a favour by moving out. Then I can raise the rent 50%

I would have fought as I had friends who took their landlords to RERA and it was surprisingly easy. A few days and some paperwork = massive savings.

Still, whatever works for you.

personally I wouldn't, just let it be, what's done is done and as you said you are happy with the outcome :)

She lived with me anyway but took a free apartment as well, so we had two places.

It's an identical apartment, just an opportunity for me to save some money.

I wasn't too pissed and he didn't ask me that night, it was a month or so later. I just said I need to think and let him know. Then decided I couldn't be bothere dand spotted the opportunity with the mrs.

Savings? I stood to make none but pay him the same amount of rent. By doing it this way I keep the same apartment, but with a different view and pay half what I did pay. To me, it's smart.

Re: The Ramadan Arms

How much would have you saved had you stayed in the same apartment at the same rent (or 5% more) and your missus moved in and split the rent?

Your rent went from 65 to 95K but you really only 'saved' money because you now have a 'flatmate' but you should be calculating off the basis that you're now effectively a two income household when your missus moved in.
