Re: Another Bloody Discgrace
I missed my calling there .
For most Atheists and Agnostics this is an interesting question but it's sufficient to say most believe that our morality is a product of our biology and society rather than any religious values we may have.
Of course to find out you would have to start with people secluded from religious beliefs and study thier lives and then compare them to Atheists, Agnostics and those of "Faith" . I'm not aware of such a study but if anyone fancies getting work published that might be a good approach.
Most evidence I've seen in the way of studies points the other way mate .
you mean Atheisim is linked to crime in many cases and there are evidence for that?

I seem to recall most where Christians but I have no reason to believe that other principals apply elsewhere unless you know of a similar study dealing with other religions?
I'm the wrong person to talk about morality anyway, in my view purity is for drinking water and not people . Better off speaking to one of the other folk here.

Seems the other way around in U.S. prisons, according to most studies. Believers are more likely to be imprisoned.

I remember people telling me here that 50 percent in Europ are atheists where as only 5 persent in US are. while 95 are believers..
if we take this into account surely the number of believers in prisons is greater.
but if some statistics is available for Europ for example .. it can be a better indicator..because of the (50 percent) information i remember (if it was true)

Just so we can all be clear.........
THE BOTTOM LINE IS THIS:
THERE ARE GOOD PEOPLE AND THERE ARE BAD PEOPLE, REGARDLESS OF RACE, COLOUR OR RELIGION
To elaborate, there are good and bad muslims, christians, catholics, Jews, protestants, non-believers, buddhist's, harry harry krishna bashers, seeks.....
It's a lot to do with conditioning, how you were brought up,the environment you were brought up in, your parents, you education if any, your friends which you were influenced by...
It doesn't matter where your from or what you are, there is a clear understanding and common sense about what it right and wrong in this world.
People make the choices to be good or bad, why they make those choices is another story and a questions I'm not sure many could answer.

I do agree it's not about race, colour, creed or religion. It's more about decisions at specific times in life. It's also about which side of the fence you happen to be on. Good and bad can be a question of perception.
OK, getting a bit too serious for me, back to sleep now.

Here you go:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_atheism
Our European pals are almost as enlightened as we are - thanks to the likes of Sartre, Heidegger, Neitzsche et al. This is fairly recent - a hundred years ago or so it was very, very different.
If you look at western art, literature, science and philosophy from around 1900 up to maybe even the 60s the loss of religious belief was quite traumatic to the Western psyche.

Hmm, not sure I agree. I think all people have the propensity to be good and bad. I consider myself to a good person, but I have done some bad things in life.

European atheists, agnostics and/or non-believers in God:
Czech Republic 58%, France 54%, UK 50%, Sweden 48%, Denmark 45%, Belgium 43%, Netherlands 42%, Slovenia 35%,...so, roughly about 45% for Western Europe. Exceptions (mainly Roman Catholic countries): Italy 6%, Portugal 4%, Spain 15% etc
Shakh Your Bootie also gave you a Wiki link, which may be more up-to-date.
