I still can't quite believe that anyone would see what I wrote and actually believe it! I hate to think what the posts are like here on April 1st! I hate it when people slag off Britain particularly when they go on and on about our horrid weather versus the 'outdoor lifestyle' in Australia with the implication that we are all trapped by our firesides. I hate it when people go on and on about the wide open spaces of Australia compared to UK. I understand as you'd think that 20 million people in a country 32 times the size of the UK with its 60 million would be far less crowded together. Of course, most people in Australia live in sprawling cities of one million plus whilst many Brits still live in towns and villages surrounded by countryside. Even some Aussies are surprised at how much countryside we have. I hate it when people harp about our cost of living and the limited choice of foodstuffs compared to the bounty of Australia. Of course our supermarkets are stocked with produce from all over the world. Surely there was a clue when I referred to the 'pathetic' attendances at the Six Nations & Premier League. They were sell outs as was the friendly at Wembley last night. The commentators were amazed at 90,000 turning up for a friendly game, mid week in winter. Even the Coca Cola Champtionship is the fourth best supported league in Europe. I'd apologize if it wasn't so ludicrous. Dave ps Spurs supporter so my ability to laugh at myself is boundless. pps I'm NOT an Australia-hater either but I'm probably wasting my breath. I was correct then... you were speaking from Uranus :p ;) |

" X many sleeps" is an Aussie Christmas thing IMO, God that annoyed me too - doesn't take much these days! I even preferred "X many shopping days" lovely, jubly commercialism

rubbish, I have used X many sleeps with my kids since they were babies, long before I moved here.
So what's your point here? Was I slagging anything/anyone off???? I thought I was having a joke with TraceyW..... Mind your own. I hadn't heard this expression until I got here, so what? You must be loads older than me then, as Australia is regularly stated by many (not me) as being about 30 years behind the times......!!! :p |

Yes you can tell from your posts that you are younger than me.
Again, meaning what?? Does age imply superiority to you? I did put 'In My Opinion' in the post you seem to dislike about 'sleeps'.... I must assume now, from your posts, you have a thing about age - You had a bit of a go at Backhomeatlast, I remember, re him not having heard of Spud U Like! |

I have found the younger people don't seem to be able to discuss stuff without resorting to personal insults. People can have different opinions about things without insults.
Sorry, I realise this is getting rather tedious, but where have I personally insulted you??? I made a jokey comment, to someone else, about sleeps that you called "rubbish". But that was just a "different opinion" from you, wasn't it? So I make a jokey comment (with tongue sticking out implying joke as per every other use of it on this web site), about age to you. You then attempt to delete your (exact same) age comment about me! I call that a draw. Cheer up! |

England is, to me, dark and grey, yet sunny and crisp. Windy and rainy, yet hot and dry. Green and lush, yet snowy and frosty. Old and historic, yet modern and cosmopolitan. Every little part of the UK has its own antithesis somewhere. That variation in environment cannot be duplicated to the same extent anywhere else in my opinion. Oh....and it's home  oh, and I'll be there in two sleeps time!!! Erm, have I mentioned that fact before???;) |

Taking Backhomeatlast's lead on this, we have a 'sum up Australia' thread so why not a 'sum up GREAT BRITAIN' thread.
So lets hear it folks anything that sums up our beloved Isle, good and bad, warts and all. We can take criticism, we're British....:) Hate it. Fresh, light, invigorating spring and summer days. Wet, cold, miserable dark winter days. Edgy, exciting, innovative. Morose, self-absorbed, over-critical. Cheap as chips (teabags; ermmm ..... I'm thinking .....) Exorbitantly expensive (houses; petrol; eating out). Best TV in the world (dramas; soaps; documentaries) Worst TV in the world (fly-on-the wall "reality" TV; endless game shows; soaps) Exciting sports coverage (rugby; Olympics; athletics) Boring sports coverage (horse racing, cricket, snooker) Socially conscious. Too soft on crime and lazy spongers. Love it. :D Hate it. :( Love it. :) Hate it. :frown: Love it. Hate it. :curse: |
