To paraphrase Paul Simon......

No, not the article, or its contents. It just amused me that after years of you pontificating about the quality, or lack thereof, of the reporting in the Daily Mail you then decide to use the Daily Express to back up your point. Hilarious. Cherry picking at its best.

An interesting piece on the BBC - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-24550075
Using a 'misery index' to assess how bad things are - not something I had heard of before.
This seems to be suggesting that while things are certainly not as bad as they have been at various points in the past, they do seem to be worse than they were in the immediate run up to the crash in 2008.
Reading the comments is also interesting - kind of mirroring how things have been discussed here - those in work are seeing things are being pretty good, but there is concern from some around youth unemployment, zero contract jobs, people facing hardships and working 2 or 3 part time jobs etc.

Daily Mail & Daily Express.......
Newspapers for the Hyacinth Bucket, curtain-twitching brigade who are too reactionary for the quality press, but too snobbish to be seen with a copy of The Sun under their arm.

on that. Not understanding complicated economics or finance, does anyone know whats going on with the GBP-AUS exchange rates since March this year. Has that anything to do with the UK economy improvement?

In the run up to the '08 crash, we were in one of the biggest financial bubbles in history. Things may have seemed "better", but the situation was totally unsustainable.

The current estimate is Autumn 2015 for the figure to get to 7% - so another 2 years for the unemployment figure to drop to what really is still a high amount of unemployment.

For the June-August period, unemployment fell by 18,000 to 2,490,000 - not a big fall. 958,000 of those unemployed are aged 16-24. Those unemployed for more than a year number 900,000.
