I've stayed there before, but not on my own. It's a lovely spot, dead spooky at night, very dark (stick to the path :scared: ).

I've never heard of Poundbury. My mum luurrvs Charles (she also reads the Daily Mail ).

I'd like to live in The Village, and get fit running away from those beachballs of death

Hmm, perhaps I could have surgery

Ok have to log off. We're watching a Korean film and I have to watch the subtitles (unlike Yoosun).

I just know I'll be dreaming of Dorset now. Hopefully no horses

[QUOTE=toandfro] I have been here for 26yrs and in that time the attitude of rip you off instead of service and "mateship"that is all over the telly
prevails. I do have Aussie mates and as usual provided i agree Aust is the ducks nuts ,dogs bollocks, world beating country it's not I'm fine .
I can identify with all that you have said here ,it effin annoys me so much that it has accentuated my englishness .

I went out in Manchester last week. It was brilliant. I haven't had much of a social life recently due to new baby and not many babysitters but I felt a real buzz going out there. Manchester city centre looks great at the moment and felt really alive. They've built a massive new Hilton hotel which towers above every other building. About halfway up is a bar/restaurant and a glass floor so you can see the city below you. It's more like something you would find in NY.

I used to work in Manchester and loved it. It's such a thriving, busy city with so much to do. I loved hearing the peep peep of the trams from my window high up in what used to be Sunley Tower (think it's now City Tower?) I loved the shopping in my lunch hours and even went back again at weekends with my daughters for more shopping (cos back in them days I could afford to shop!) I'm going home for Christmas and all we talk about is our upcoming visits to Manchester - Debenhams, Primark, H & M, etc. And I haven't even started on those beautiful old buildings - so full of character - can't wait.

They make it sound so cheap! It does annoy me when reports do a £ for $ comparison without taking into account local factors. That "average" house in Sydney for £196k/$500k is about 9-10x the local wage. It might be cheaper , but it's still a long way from 'affordable' for a lot of people.

Hehe I do that with my accent, and I use all the English pronunciations even at my presentations. I work for the Gov so if anyone ever called me on it I'd raise the racial vilification flag quicker than you can say ' A Tooheys new and some change for the pokies'

I find after 18yrs I'm much less tolerant of the Aussies. I actively try not to engage with them wherever possible. When you've only been here a couple of years you try and fit in, but after a while the chip on the shoulder chest beating drivel they constantly spew forth, becomes rather tiresome.

Aussie people are like Aussie beer. They will always be around but best ignored if at all possible.

true I have been here 26yrs (on and off) and now I just smile ,nod and think arseholes, as arguing with them is akin to child abuse and gives me a headache trying to talk in single syllables.

Being here is like being in a marriage that everyone on the outside expects to work, but on the inside you know you're in a vacuum and headed for divorce

Anyway we've signed a 12mth lease on a nice place in Lane Cove but I think some serious plans will be made in the coming year. Bloody hope so
I like this one, can't wait for the divorce
