I heard it was at least 3 hours for International flights, but I don't think anyone would need to get there THAT early. So long as you take into consideration going through security and plan accordingly...a couple of hours would be fine.

I usually start shaking once I get to the airport. I only have to get out of the car and hear the planes taking off for it to really hit me that I'm going somewhere. :)

It is at this point, I feel for the pets. I wonder what they have to endure from the time they are handed over to the time the plane departs.

Having never sent a pet overseas I couldn't help you! I've read numerous articles though and it seems like they're taken well care of...taken for a walk between flights so they can pee or poop or whatever they want to do just to stretch their legs. They're taken care of much better than our suitcases that's for sure.

That's why I cheated and looked at the little symbol near the name...definitely a male symbol :) Easy to make that boo boo though when answering a post and putting she this or she that. LOL

It's not frantic, it's excited !! I think the Internet connection is only for those lucky devils in first class and business class. The rest of us have to make do with what we get. :) Besides, would you be able to concentrate on anything else BUT getting on the plane? lol

Currently watching my husband's (Robert) flight on flightaware from PHL to Manchester. US 734

It was very weird as I waved him off to begin "our" new chapter in life without me (I have to sell the house, cars etc before I can go) and I must admit at the moment it doesn't seem real as he travels a lot with work and i'm used to being on my own for a couple of weeks at a time.

Maybe once I realise that he's not coming back in a fortnight it will sink in more, but right now it's rather odd.
He had the major collywobbles last night worrying if we're doing the right thing and all, but there's no turning back now, he's resigned from his old job and starts his new one next week. I'm just glad the weather forecast for the coming week in UK is somewhat sunny, it always seems better when the sun's shining upon arrival :)
Another chapter in our life is beginning and I don't know whether to be excited or to shit myself if I'm honest!

( sorry if this post was too long for the thread but it is related to Flight Tracker)

Oooohh, so we have another "bon voyager" today :)

I think when the day draws near to fly over, it is bound to make you wonder if you are doing the right thing. As you said, though, it is the beginning of another chapter . . . another adventure :) As many have said, you won't know unless you try ;) I don't think going back home can ever be bad ;)

I think also whilst we were en-route to the airport I saw a car carrying some pets destined for far away lands, as in the back seat was a pet crate with a large sticker "live animals, this way up" written in big green letters on the side. I hoped they were okay and it made me think of when mine will be travelling, it'll be a huge life change for them too.

I just hope all the local cats and dogs there won't pick on them for having American sounding meows and woofs :)

And no, going back home can't be bad, it's all we've talked about doing in the last 17 years

According to Flightaware, Happyglow landed in Holland two hours ago :) I assume he has gone through Immigration and is waiting to pick up doggie now before proceeding to get three trains, a ferry and two taxis before reaching his final destination in the UK :)

Good luck, Happyglow!

Gosh, that's definitely a journey and a half. It's unimaginable to me to have to catch a plane, three trains, a ferry and two taxis... I can't remember the final destination but wouldn't it have been easier to get a plane straight to the UK?

Way to go Happyglow :) You're HOME!!!!!!!!!!!!

I sent my sister the information about flightradar24 and she watched my niece's (her daughter's) flight. She took a screen shot of it just before it went off the screen when it landed. She said she was listening to Classic FM radio and the theme from the Onedin line came on. She sent them this text which they read out:

"love this piece - listening while tracking my daughter's flight home for good from Montreal - after 10 years living away from UK in various places. The ups and downs matching radar and my emotions."

I've been blubbing ever since!

Until I get there I'm going to have to teach him how to look for bargains in the shops. He told me earlier that he'd bought some mouthwash from a local garage and it cost him £6 for a small bottle  (it was late on Bank Holiday Monday so no big supermarkets were open at the time) I'd best get back quick to stop him from bankrupting us with his weekly shop at the Shell garage!

Yes, I would recommend getting back to him as soon as possible or else he'll have spent all the money.. LOL:rofl: I guess we can forgive him this once, especially as it was a bank holiday and nothing else was open....but if he does it again and it's NOT a holiday then you have to give him a good talking to, AND an education in bargain shopping :rofl: Aww bless! :)

I've not seen anything from him yet..so maybe he's just so happy to be home and catching up with everything and everyone he doesn't have time to come online...or it's JETLAG !! I know he had quite a hike to get through so I wouldn't blame him in the slightest to be sleeping for the next couple of days..:rofl:

If you knew how much I have to do between now and then  you wouldn't say that. Nothing like leaving everything to the last minute. I am a text book case of how not to plan an International move right now. Still frankly all I really need is my passport and a plane ticket

I seriously doubt it, but no harm in hoping...lol. According to the passport office they haven't even finalised it yet, so it's not been sent for printing, so they're looking into why it's taking so long. Hope to get a phone call or an email explaining WHY! LOL

:o we're here! Just sooo tired, first time I've had a spare five minutes and a little energy to report in. Jetlag is a :banghead: and I need way more :drinkwine: and COFFEE to reset my brain.

Sat in bed with comatose pooch, drinking earl grey, wrapped up in everything I can find cos it's freezing in here. Spring's coming on wednesday apparently!

All is lovely, its great to be back, there's still a bit of countryside left. As for the humour - let's just say there was hilarity on the Norwich train before I even got home, and it's so wonderful to be somewhere where we all speak the same deeper language.

Also got rather overenthusiastic in Sainsburys and bought everything, and yes it's about half the price of Canada, for a pescatarian and a small canine omnivore anyway.

Thanks for all the good wishes, now to catch up on everyone else's news - who's next for the big leap?

Thank you!! I'm in Derbyshire.

It requires the talents of Miss Betty to write about the train, but suffice it to say there was me (old git with small confused dog and too much luggage), a sweet and innocent young student and a very drunk fisherman jammed in the end of a carriage right by the loo, which of course the whole train decided to use, so it was like a rather smelly and riotous cocktail party.

Eventually we managed to grab seats and a very young, erm, lady and gentleman took over the end of the carriage. He wanted to fight everything, they had two babies in tow and she was humungous with more. The atmosphere was somewhat tense as their loud arguing spilled over into the carriage (he kept opening the door and uttering vague threats at the world in general) so I decided to use Canadian charm on them. Sometimes it's very useful being a "foreigner" - worked a treat!

Everyone else was lovely, had lots of charming chats with people and the copious coffee at Norwich station saved my life ;)
