They tend to have very poor feeds. They're always pushing their own
monitored groups.

I did too. The pay version had more features than the free version
and didn't cost much. Note that this is software, which we purchased,
not a service that we pay for.

In case of software, there's not much difference.
Note that you don't purchase the software, but only obtain a licence to
use it. The software isn't yours.

I've been quite happy with Newsguy for quite a few years,
now. It's not free, but the subscription price is not very
much - certainly not if one only uses their newsreader
option, as I do. (Although they offer a lot more features,
and none of them seems exorbitantly priced.)
