Bye bye BBC

People have all sorts of different priorities and don't necessarily want to "get away from it all" when on holiday: they may just want to "get away from some of it". Perhaps they just want to do the things they do at home but with the bonus of a bit of sunshine. So why not?

Plenty Portuguese visit the UK and are not expecting to see Morangos e Açucar!

You'd be surprised how many people have such ridiculous criteria when booking holidays. - We used to run a business in the African wilderness areas and have had clients insist they'll only book if we can provide TV, phone, internet and even overnight power so they can run their cpap sleeping machine gizmos!
Like it or not, it's a sad fact of life that some people can't do without that kind of BS.

Dear mfesharne,
I take your point entirely and agree with all of it, but just to point out that if some people don't have their cpap sleeping gizmos, they can get quite ill. (My husband has one and after a week of not being able to use it, cant really function) But maybe they shouldn't go on that kind of holiday then...

Realme
I can understand the problem but as you say, should people who need such equipment be in a true wilderness area where the nearest hospital or power station is an 8+ hour drive away?

Me I prefer sitting on a terrace with a drink and reading a book.

Hello!
Will be out there next week, and although we will miss some Uk tv will be quite happy watching portuguese Tv as we have some knowledge of the language, and yes its a great tool to help with learning. We will miss seeing the news though,so what will we be able to see can anyone tell us? As far as we know our rental says we have a digibox, which previously received all Uk channels!

If it is a Freesat box, them you will get SKY news , a host of shopping channels which later as CBS show old films and TV series.
The are still a few other film channels left and another called Pick TV.
NO BBC, ITC C4 or C5.

Why would I??
It's not the soaps, I haven't watched them for a while ...it's the news and dramas I like ...especially in winter when the nights are dark and too cold to sit out just like in the UK.
A week is fine...but longer will be a drag without knowing what's happening in my homeland.
Portugal has lots of sunshine...... however! the local Tv is a tad dry!!!

However everyone is entitled to their own view....aren't they?

I am retired but still active during the day. At night I would want to sit and watch some English TV as I don't understand Portuguese.
Read books? Where do I get books in English here?
That is for old fogies.

And I go to the local ish charity shops for books - or car boot sales.
But each to their own. I'm happy with a book or the internet, himself prefers to watch a film or footie

I never realized that. Does the Samsung Tablet have a Kindle App?

Yes of course - download the Kindle APP from the Play store - it's even free.
Better still if you download the FILMON app (also free) you want watch all the UK TV you want as long as you have WiFi connection to the internet
