Re: The Toon Army / EPL thread

It was a pretty blatant dive. Karma being what it is you wouldn't be surprised if it evens out over the season, but I wonder what is being said about it behind closed doors at the club. I cant see it being encouraged. Fans being what they are are hardly likely to be the most objective people to comment on a dive like that;)

I am surprised at how little has been said in the media about Evans kungfoo kick on Drogba, that was pretty clearly a red card/ penalty to me, even if Drogba had no hope of getting the ball from there. Self defence? I dont think thats entirely true.

Less said about Liverpool in general this season the better. Another year of dashed expectations. I suppose the only saving grace is everyone else seems determined to drop stupid points too, so they are not totally out of it, but their performances have been awful, so no real grounds for optimism about a revival.

So far those calling for a replay include Irish and French ministers, and Thierry Henry among others! Fellow Gillette spokesperson David Beckham has rushed to Henrys defence (so sweet:) )

Its not going to happen of course, that would involve FIFA admitting they were flawed in some way, but I wish they would introduce video replay on controversial calls. Give each team three opportunities a game or something.

Roy Keane made a good point...no one in the Irish camp was bleating on about replaying games for the sake of fair play when they got a really dodgy penalty call in their favour to win against Georgia...and without that they would not have even been in Paris:sneaky:

...and they'd have to give back all the bung money.

well with liverpool drawing with shity and ARSEnal losing, is it becoming a two horse race already?
and will liverpool be the next leeds, should they continue on this dismal run, crash out of the champions league and fail to qualify for next year? please, really really please god.

I don't see Liverpool qualifying for the next stage of the CL barring a miracle. Scousers have enough trouble finding 3 wise men and a virgin for the nativity play each year, so I figure Benitez is a a goner before Christmas. :p:p

Will Arse not go above united (on goal diference only admittedly) if they win their game in hand?
perhaps it is a one horse race.Wasn't expecting that til at least january.

Yes, but we haven't won it yet. It is against Bolton though, and the date hasn't been set yet.

It'll probably be played sometime after if/when we get knocked out of the Champions League/FA Cup/League Cup. :p

true, i was just asking the question. i don't think bolton will do ARSEnal, far from it, just appears to me that from the games played already, if not the scores alone, that its coming down to two teams already.
i have to be honest, i fancy chelsea this season, we are too haphazard and the striker/keeper quandary along with defensive frailties and hargreaves still missing i think will be too much for us in the long run. tottenham as the dark horse for 3rd place.

on the plus side, my girls team i coach is now 4-1-1. i await a call from anfield with trepidation.

Wont happen. Too much history and potential money to be made by the club, so even if the worst does happen, the reality is the americans might end up having to bail (silver lining), and one of the suitors in the wings will step in to buy them out.

I agree though that at this stage CL next year is far from assured, although there are only a couple of points covering 5th to 9th really, so anything could happen.

Re: The Toon Army / EPL thread

Didn't think anyone would - just wanted to gloat, that's all!

Celtic manager, Tony Mowbray, was bleating to the Press afterwards about how they had lost a game he felt they had dominated. “I felt there was a huge gulf in quality and class between the two teams, yet they scored from two set plays.” he moaned.

When Dundee United manager Craig Levein was told of Mowbray's remarks, he replied, “I didn’t think we were that much better than them. That’s doing Celtic an injustice."
