A nice Salmon pie with mash on top, part home made, part cheat.

Bechamel sauce from a packet was the cheat.

Ooh, that does sound good. How was it? And, what is the recipe?

Simple. Leftover mash from the day before - reheated, buttered and re-whisked.

Salmon portions in casserole dish, partly cooked, Bechamel sauce made according to packet - I don't mind store bought sauces/mixes as the result is consistent - and poured over, back into oven for a couple more minutes.

Then spud on top and under broiler for a bit...few breadcrumbs on top in a failed effort to get a crunchy top.

Beef in Guinness Pie today. No cheats. But then maybe it'll go wrong. :(

Unless you count ready-made Tenderflake Puff Pastry that you just roll flat as cheating.

Nothing went wrong. It was bloody lovely.

Only the second time I used mother in law's Dutch Oven or Le Creuset to her ;)

I made a Father's Day Sunday roast with a pork joint wrapped in bacon (sorry Oink :() with usual veggies, roast tatties and Yorkshire puds as youngest pup does like them and doesn't mind what meat they accompany. It had a little plastic thermometer disposable indicator which popped up when internal temperature was reached and the meat was up to temperature - quite clever, never seen that before

They had those in chickens back when I was a kid. Even my mum who could barely operate an oven could cook something edible if they had one of those in the meat.

What varetiy of potatos do you use for your roasties? The only ones I've ever been able to get to work came from HID's nan's garden in Saskachewon.

I asked Snoop what they were and she replied " White ones, I dunno what they were"... Not hugely helpful :sneaky:
Interesting re the thermometres, never come across them before. I occasionally use the thermal probe on the oven which seems to work well

Not terribly. :( I've tried white, yellow and horrible brown ones and they never come out nice and crispy. But HID's had these ones from her nan's garden that were whitish but with read spots and they were the bollox. Best roasties I've ever made. Plus, I agree with little stinkypup, yorkies are fine with any kind of meat as long as there's lashings of gravy.

Probably all that War of the Roses hang up, they're very insecure up there. I come from the south and I still think that Yorkshires should be a staple food stuff. Sadly with HID on a diet of mainly alfalfa berries and unicorn dust, I rarely get an opportunity to make them. :(

My local store had some cheap frozen meatloaf with those in.

I prefer my own meatloaf but these were just convenient for the odd lunch.

Yesterday I slow cooked an inside round joint. I'd done it previously (in the slow cooker ) with Brisket but it struck me as an expensive piece of meat to do that way and when I saw the inside round @ $3.99 lb I got some to give it a go.

It was as good as the Brisket. Cooked on the low setting for 7 hours with onions and mushrooms and, of course, I cheated with a crock pot beef stew mix. :o

Any of the spuds I get here make good roast spuds but Reds do it best.

Finally found some Tiramisu again. It's been a long time since I saw any here.

Delish.

Soooooo much choice

Starter was Coquille St Jacques, mini Dungeness Crab, Main was individual Beef Wellington, puplet had mini ribs followed by enormous plate of Chicken enchiladas.
Puds was a fantastic Baked Alaska whilst Granny pup had an individual Creme Brulee with a little sleeve of granulated sugar to caramelise the top....M&S, come back to Canada:thumbup:
