I just changed plans and we are driving from BC leaving today quickly to get through the pass tonight and hopefully beat the snow in the forecast for tomorrow.

I really don't want to have to deal with trying to put snow chains on for the first time ever....

Have a good trip!

Enjoy the drive and the trip. Safe travels.

Last year I rented a car in France and had to get snow chains for it due to us going to a resort in the Alps. Ended up never needing chains and my UK and French cousins were so surprised when I said I had never used chains in Canada. Believe it or not there are YouTube videos on how to put them on. I think above about 70 km/h or so is not recommended but then you're likely driving on snow covered roads anyway.

Sigh.

Hope the snow stays away for you to still make the trip.. albeit later than hoped.

I didn't think we had $1m+ houses in the area. I was wrong.

5250 sq ft, $1,295,000

That's a lot of cushions (photo 37).

Not my cup of tea house wise and to top it off it backs on to a golf course which would be the ultimate deal killer for me.

Looking at its location you'll be the taxi for your kids a lot. Public transit doesn't appear to be nearby.

Think of all those executive weekends for golfing enthusiasts you could host.

There is a bus that runs right down that road, astonishingly, every 30 minutes into Dieppe and on to the Mall. And another half hourly bus that passes the end of that road about 700m away so not as isolated as I thought at first glance.

The downside is there's a long driveway to plow, lots of grass to cut and the potential to be plagued by weeds. Maybe the odd golfball crashing through the window. "Can we have our ball back please?"

Where is your entrepreneur spirit? Look you collect all the golf balls that land on your property. You sell them on Kijiji or get the kids to set up a used golf ball stand. With the money you can make you can then afford to have the drive plowed, grass cut and weeds tended to.

Simples.

There is only one in Gatineau (a city of over 250,000). It's a lot of house with its own beach on the Gatineau River.

Stopped at Medford, Oregon for the night. It rained and heavy rain most of the time from the time we left Vancouver, BC at 4am until about an hour before Medford. 900 km of rain...lol

Google says 12 hours rest of the way so 14 ish with gas and break stops.

Road trips can be tough without the heavy rain. Well done for getting as far as you did. 🚗 🚗

It does seem strange. Maybe designed to suit childless couples that like to live in luxury and have the occasional dinner party/house guest?

Bats is doing a great job finding the fugly in small town Ontario.

That one in Brighton has this place by the main road in front of it.

https://goo.gl/maps/LihcJdWTVxj at least it is a landmark to describe the retrofitted building you live in converted into apartments.

I quite like that Romanian? street, looks a little Dudley, fairytale.

It's a mission you know, fugly finding.

Fairytale is the word! It's definitely the showpiece of the town.

https://www.google.ca/maps/@44.01339...!3m1!1e3?hl=en

Upon looking around at a few spots in the town it seems like a nice place, some parts not as affluent, but even those areas without pavement have some charm. It isn't choked with cars and trucks, or derelict vehicles, which is refreshing.

Houses on either side of the Gatineau River, or on the Ottawa River, are almost always the most expensive in town. You could have just told me the price and I could have stuck a pin into a map for the three probable locations.

Housing just isn't that expensive here. My 4-bed detached in a nice area is probably worth $270k tops. If we moved it five miles down the road to the Ottawa side, the price would be way higher.

That's very affordable, especially if it's a nice area.
