eek that is a long time. Can't renew by mail? I can't remember how the renewal process works...

No idea I just had to do it but had to wait until I came back from NS as I needed it hire a car.

I wish it was a 10 year renewal like in the U.K. But then again I'm getting a services card with my photo on it as well this time

10 years would be nice. Guess 5 is likely the longest they will ever go for though.

I would be happy if ICBC cut their renewal fee. $75 or whatever it is every 5 years is pricey, add in PR card, and passport fees, holy man does having ID cost a small fortune every 5 to 10 years depending on the ID being renewed.

Is that so long?
I don't drive but I did get and subsequently renewed a provincial ID card which is the same process as a DL in NB.

It was certainly quicker for the renewals but the waiting time could be a while and there might be a few people needing photos.

I think we waited almost an hour just to get to the counter the first time.

Irritatingly they now have an initial reception point at the Service NB office here and you have to get a ticket there before you go to the main counter area.

It might be useful if you turn up without everything you need and you find out you need something else without having wasted time in the main bit (but finding out before you go would be a good idea ) but when you have everything and you have to line up with people making other enquiries or whatever (not even needing the part you need) your time has already been wasted

Have you ever been to Brighton?

I grew up there. It was always a little "different".

Yes, I know exactly what he was alluding to, the word used to me seemed somewhat derogatory and borderline homophobic but "it's fine to say that because it is good old Novo".

Frantic searching of house last week at too early am, for gum shield needed for sevens tournament. Once crisis had been resolved by unearthing old (and really not all that mouldy) one, settled down for a cup of tea. Fourth item on Facebook feed was an advert for gumshields. I swear they have the place bugged.

I rather doubt that he is homophobic. Probably just a riposte to my Newcastle slagging.

"Bird" is patronizing and dismissive so, in a context where it's used, "fairy" seems reasonable enough to me.

I rest my case

Yes, I would absolutely agree about "bird"- the context used here is describing a very specific group of people who live in Brighton. It is the kind of language that would be used by my dad having watched "Are you being served?". But there again, similar generation..
Derogatory in this context?- Yes of course it was.
