Having had cancer doesn't automatically mean one cannot donate blood. It's very possible for people who have had cancer to still donate, depending on what kind of cancer it was and how long its been. So while you may not be able to donate due to have had cancer it doesn't mean others cannot, American Red Cross allows cancer survivors to donate provided its been at least 1 year since treatment and the cancer has not come back.

Even if donating whole blood isn't an option, might still be possible to donate parts of blood such as platelets if one has had cancer.

Also still possible to donate organs if one has had cancer and depending on health of donor at time of their death, how long they were cancer free, their organs may still be viable for donation and its recommended those who wish to donate even if they had cancer still register as a donor.

The cost of his watch back in the 70's is roughly $21,100.88 in 2019 dollars, I assume 3,000 some odd dollars in the 70's was a decent chunk of change, well it still is, but must have been a lot bigger chunk back then.
So looking at some old US Census reports, median male annual income back then was $7,400 per year, so like 50% of the median annual income to buy that watch, crazy.

Crazy really, his investment in that watch seems to have paid off.

I know for many the noise would be annoying but when I was younger I always wanted to live in this location, watch planes all day at home.

Not quite the same level of swish perhaps, but I lived in a hotel on the airport apron 12 years ago for 18 months, on and off, and it was utter bloody hell. First thing in the morning the room would start to fill with the smell of jet fuel and wasn't at all pleasurable...there was always some rumbling, farting engine doing something noisy...
That location in San Diego you would think would be low rent because of the noise, but its the opposite, actually a pretty high rent and desirable area.

I never minded though, in fact I liked it.I wonder if being near trains for all my early years was what inspired my love of trains now. The perfect holiday for me would be touring entirely by train, exploring new places during the day and being rocked to sleep in my cabin at night
