Stinking bunged up head cold: any treatments (I know I can't cure it) to help relieve symptoms other than steam inhalations, hot tea/toddies & waiting it out?

BC roads in winter can be treacherous and the weather extreme so I try to respect it too. If I'm planning a trip I check the highway cams, and in winter especially try to schedule the Kootenay Pass in broad daylight, don't want to do it in blizzards in the dark again. On the prairies we're used to bad weather and poor driving conditions, but sliding off the road probably means going in the ditch, not plunging down the side of a freaking mountain.
B.C.Highway Cams I was only commuting Squamish to Whistler in winter 2014 and it was a mild winter, but there were stretches where the weather could just turn from rain to snow without warning, and it's one of the tamer mountain highways. This year the highway to Whistler has been a mess from what I have been reading. |

I'm dealing with mine by drinking the purchases I know to be less successful. Random Zins and Cabs that were discounted if you bought two; I now know that to be because no one buys a second after trying the first. This is the moment to clear the dusty shelves.
Thanks! |

Vicks vapour rub (chest) or Olbas oil (tissue and pillow) if you have any. Chicken soup. Hope you feel better soon! >hugs< |

I still find it odd this particular heater is the most reliable, with best reputation out there, yet it's one of the lowest priced ones as well. High quality, low price, don't see that much anymore. |

Hmmm, that's not a bad idea. There are a couple of bottles I keep forgetting to palm off onto other people ;) I'm thinking mulled wine maybe?
Thanks! The answer is coffee "laced" with cognac or whisky or olbas, with a bit of sugar (not too much because it's bad for your teeth). Repeat as necessary (ie have a few of them) and then crash out. You will either sweat it out and feel better, or you'll wake up feeling like shit, which you are already, so you have nothing to lose. Trust me. I once met a doctor. |

Over zealous security guards?
Man says he was attacked by Bay security staff without warning after carrying purchases out of Burnaby store |
Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
Funny story, and a nice US Border officer....
I know its going to be up to the discretion and mood of the officer at the border. My wife needed to cross today, asked me to grab her passport out of the lock box, I being apparently absentminded and not paying attention grabbed a passport and put it in her purse as she asked. Got to border, and the passport I gave her was mine....Oop's. The US Officer was apparently very nice about the situation, made a joke about it, and allowed her to cross, didn't even make her go inside. Canada gave her no issues coming back, accepted her BC DL and no delay. |

Made chocolate chip cookies from scratch today, but doing the math seems silly to make them from scratch, the chocolate chips alone are $3.99 and I made 2 dozen.
Chilled pre-made Pillsbury cookie dough that makes 2 dozen, $3.99. Fun to make from scratch though. I enjoy baking. |

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
So on our trip to Arizona in November with my dad and sisters kids, we were on this back road in the desert off I-17 just north of Phoenix where there was a bunch of cactus. (my wife really never saw cactus in the desert before.)
So while stopped there we see a google car decked out in it's equipment driving up the road past us. So I noted the area, and well tonight looked it up on google street view and sure enough there we are. |

I am shown on my bicycle in my neighbourhood on old imagery that has since been replaced as the default but can be seen in the older imagery. I'm also shown on old imagery with clients on a site visit to a property. My cousin in Wimbledon is shown giving instructions to her husband on how to trim some trees in the front yard. |

Not there now but my stepson was shown cutting the grass at our house. Not sure why it was redone so soon.

Twelve years and a month since uttering 'never again', the removals men are here and I am rapidly losing comfortable places to sit.

Random act of kindness today.
I was shovelling. It was a barsteward. I put off the mountain of ice at the bottom of the driveway until last. It was a biggy. Cardiac shovelling. And lo, a contractor came to do the mail boxes, with a big back-hoe. He then simply turned around, came back and blitzed my driveway. A quick wave and he was off. He didn't have to do that. I could have hugged him. |

Gas prices up as of new year, 1.22 a litre for premium. Thank you carbon tax / cap and pay.

$1.22.9 here for regular and $1.36 to $1.39 for premium. ( about 2 weeks ago it was around 1.10) Vancouver is $1.35 for regular and around $1.50 for premium. After accounting for the exchange rate, right cross the border is as low as 0.83 CAD per liter. Sometimes I think moving to Abbotsford is wise just so we can cross for gas, go in the evening and border wait is usually 0 mins both ways so not wasting any gas idling for 20 mins. At current prices crossing the border would save $50 a month roughly. |

Its about a 50 min drive for me, I could easily zip across with Nexus but it probably isn't viable at that distance. Though the gas is 63 cents per litre in Pt Huron. This has made me remember there is a native gas station about 20min drive from me too, according to google I can fill up regular for 96c and premium for 1.10 which is good. |
Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
Petrol is far too cheap here. It should be at least three times more. Would lessen the amount of cars on the road and get people to use public transportation.

I suppose, but not compared to what it used to be. Regular was around $1.04-1.05 and premium $1.16-18.
