Are you ok with moving in, temporarily? :) It's either until we have more stable work income or if BC Housing calls with a place available, we are on the housing list but it can take years upon years to get housing, so that isn't a short term solution, but long term solution. |

Your health needs, time on list, recognised disability income, being overcrowded, that sort of stuff? Do you have to update, for example, the change - which is not simply an address change but something more involved - since you were listed? I'm assuming that means more overcrowding now? Do the housing people respond to such changing circumstances? |
Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
BC Housing categorizes people into 5 categories, from their website.
Applicants facing a severe risk to health and/or safety, such as homelessness or living in a homeless shelter. Applicants with serious health/medical/social needs, such as risk of homelessness, fleeing domestic abuse, living in severely inadequate housing, or transitioning to a more independent living situation. Applicants whose housing need is moderate compared with the two previous categories, such as living in temporary or inadequate accommodation. Applicants with a specialized housing need or low housing need, such as living in marginally crowded housing. Applicants for the low end market units found in some subsidized buildings. You have to update your file at minimum every 6 months, if something significant changes you also want to update earlier. Say you have housing currently, but then end up homeless, you want to update that ASAP as it will move you into a more urgent category.

I have no idea how that works but is there any sort of 'points' system that maybe gives a few more points and betters your chances in different situations?

Presumably, there could be another change - even if still living there - if the situation changes such as health deteriorating; timescale able to stay changed; condition changed etc |

It's not ideal, but it's necessary as there is nowhere in the Lower Mainland we can afford rent wise, and we can't leave the lower mainland area at the moment for some medical reasons.

Wouldn't it be funny if the new trade agreement between Canada and the EU was so successful that further agreements were established including Canada "joining" the EU in some form.
Citizenship of Canada might get our European passports back. (not that we've lost them yet, but you know what I mean) |

Many of the people I went to high school with in California bought homes with 2 or 3 family members so they could have a place, not ideal, but only way they could afford housing. We certainly would do something like that if we had willing family members. |
Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
Upside a place I interviewed at several months ago wants to hire me.
Downside it's in Vancouver and probably not doable, but we will see if it's possible to find housing within commuting distance, we did look at a place today, but we can't meet all of their rental qualifications. |

A new rum in Sask liquor stores, Lemon Hart Blackpool Spiced. It has a bit more of the salt and the sea about it than Sailor Jerry. About time they got another Guyanan rum in.

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
It's an old irritation of mine but I really don't like the term jobsworth.
"It's more 'n my job's worth to let you park there." Well, it is isn't it? You want to park unlawfully and you want someone else specifically employed to uphold that rule to let you break the rule and risk their job. What makes you so special? You want someone to turn a blind eye to that undeclared income; going through a red light; faulty bit of safety equipment; tell you the lab test result they typed up ready for the doctor; report the minutes of a confidential meeting; reveal the secret recipe; slip you that $100 from the till while nobody's looking; let you in without a ticket; park in that 'disabled parking' space etc etc If it is their job to do something who gives you the right to belittle them? :frown: Having said that...the Tesco example certainly appears to be a case not of someone doing their job but going a bit power mad. Not using common sense. That's what they should be criticised for. |

Not using common sense. That's what they should be criticised for. For example, when my kid was around 3 I let him sit in the big part of the shopping trolley, and never had any comments until one day in Tesco, some young assistant strode up and instructed me that riding in the trolley was strictly prohibited. Naturally we complied, but he seemed like a complete jobsworth (for want of a better word) to me. |
