Dogs are funny creatures, they will roll around on a dead fish, eat cat poop and whatever other nasty smelling thing they find, but put an orange in front of them they sniff it and act like your have let them smell the most offending thing ever.

Would be interesting to see how a dog smells and interprets an orange, the look our dog gives me when I let her smell an orange is amusing, she genuinely seems revolted by the smell.

We did indeed Bristol:thumbup: If you would like to opine that NB has a rosy future, and that comes to pass too - I will personally be moving that you are voted in to power!

Seriously though I was delighted by this cancellation - for fragile people in more rural communities this was going to be disastrous.

does she eat any fruit? My dog will eat watermelon, and chunks of frozen mango, but not much else. I used to know a dog that stole horse carrots

She will eat apples, berries, water melon no issue. But man oranges much just smell awful to her considering how she reacts. Oh she likes beets and carrots too.

I remember walking up a hillside trail with young Bogey and he casually stripped a wild rose off a bush, thorns and all, didn't miss a step. He didn't like carrots though. A lot of dogs do, and they're supposed to be good for cleaning teeth.

I can make a really nice stew and give Charley (a male Cairn) some with his dinner, but if ONE pea makes it’s way in there, the gravy is liked and sucked off, but left like tiny orphans in the dish!..NO pea is ingested! None of my dogs over the years have been fond of a green pea.

I’m going to try an adventure with a dog and an orange this week...I’ve never tried it before - I’ll report back...

My previous dog loved carrots, she would walk to the fridge and wait patiently for me to pull one out of the veg drawer. She would then carry it 'cigar' style into the other room, where she sat on the couch and pushed it into my hand to hold for her, so she could munch away. Once it got to a certain level she would gently retrieve it and trap it between her paws to finish it. :D

My goose loved snails, we had a goose when I was younger, got him when I was 5 and he died when I was 20, would have lived longer but the neighbors got a vicious dog who got out and killed the goose and goat we had. The dog had previously bitten a human, so animal control put the dog down after it attacked our goose and goat.

We had a duck too, but it passed away at 12 or 13 years old of natural causes.

Probably! I think they're called retrievers because they were used to retrieve water birds that hunters had shot, why the hell they didn't eat those too I don't know. If I could be sure that no one was eating while reading this I'd give a list of the disgusting things my goldie ate/tried to eat on his walks, but being a good little community member I won't. Actually, I've made myself feel sick remembering.

Goldens are probably the next popular water dog in the hunting retriever class, but still a distant second from Labs. Lots of dogs can be good retrievers though, and even Standard Poodles can be very competitive (one training video I saw showed one working very well in a field trial). Dogs eating ducks (like dogs eating disgusting things on walks) is a matter of training.

Ours was trained within an inch of his life, and was beautifully behaved and obedient, but he just couldn't or wouldn't learn that one. I guess no animal, or human, is perfect eh?

There are a few things most of them just can't resist. One thing I was told by the owner of the kennel where I worked was "Never say your dog would never do something, because they surely will."

My friend has a Golden Retriever and what a magnificent creature he is. Obedient, friendly, extremely handsome and most recommendable to anyone contemplating getting a large dog. If I was In the market, the breed would, without doubt, be at top of my list.

The AKC lists Labs, Shepherds, Goldens as the top 3 in popularity, but I believe Goldens held the spot as most popular pet dogs in America for many years.

You train them to not eat the ducks. We rented some of our labs out to the local posh golf course to chase Canada Geese off the greens and made good money from it. The head greens-keeper would take them around in a cart. However, once I was delivering dog food and checking on them and saw my dog's dad jump out of the cart and start chasing goslings around in a water hazard and probably caused some of them to drown, and after that he didn't get to go to the golf course any more. As his owner and my boss said "Once you've had chocolate, it's pretty hard to go back to vanilla."

my daughter’s school had 2 labs, purely to frighten the geese away from the playing fields.

Canada has made it near impossible for aquarium keepers to treat their fish, especially new arrivals from the store who often need some treatment for disease. Late 2018 new regulations took effect and banned all medications and treatments used, and there are very few vets in Canada who will treat fish so most have no access to a vet and thus end up having their fish die as a result, even stores can't treat their fish, almost like Canada wants to destroy the aquarium hobby.

It is frustrating a lot of hobbyists and stores.

It seems some medication are still available.. but they may not be what you are thinking of.

I suspect the clampdown is because some people were buying 'pet / fish' antibiotics for human use (especially the ones who are preppers) :) https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/fish-...phole-1.330650

Probably not best idea to mail a human brain in a mason jar, and certainly not a good idea to mail it to another country. A Canada Post truck being inspected, US officers spotted a package they found suspicious, and found a brain in a jar.
