I have been mostly just staying in my pj's, when I take the dog out, I just put on jeans over them. I can say without anything to do, each day is harder to stay active.

Our doorbell rang a couple of hours ago (I was expecting a delivery) and saw through the glass door my 'usual' POSTNL (border controls, yay!) person who pointed at the package he'd just put on the step. I gave him the thumbs-up, but I maybe opened the door too soon for his liking, as he shot off like the urban-mythical rat up a drainpipe. Or he was possibly on a cross-border delivery bonus. The truth will out in a few months. |

I shower and such still as per usual, but I don't feel any different based on what I am wearing, I am just cutting down on laundry by not wearing pj's + daytime clothes, so ends up being less laundry. But I am not going to stores, or such, my outings involve taking the dog around the neighborhood and if we see someone a head we cross the street so we don't pass anyone, and most others out and about are doing the same pretty much, or we get in the car and drive around for 1/2 hour, everyone in the building seems to be following the don't get in the elevator with others rule, so that is good. I use a tooth pick to press the buttons on the elevator, so limiting what I touch directly. With a dog really have no choice but to go outside, but I am not socializing with anyone or anywhere close to others, and health people say going outside is allowed, to enjoy the outdoors just maintain distance from others. |

if we must we can go outside too, but that is a little vague imo. No more than groups of 2, unless you live together. I wish they would say you can go for a walk only. Groups of joggers and cyclists can be seen. People throwing balls and frisbees, lifting weights etc. why is all that necessary...a quick walk is all that’s needed at times like these. The police are out moving people on this weekend.

We are going on 2 weeks almost in BC without a testing back log, so these numbers coming out now should be from tests done pretty recently. Governor in California was asked if he though the NFL games would start on schedule this fall, his answer was he doesn't anticipate games starting on schedule in California, which likely means they will be keeping theme parks and such closed and things there will be a lot longer than people think. |

Who would have thought getting groceries would be so difficult to obtain.

Even instacart here has been difficult to get delivery slots, finally did get one today, although only ending up getting 30% or so of what was ordered as the store was out of everything else. The shopper even texted photos of the empty shelves, so the government keeps saying the supply chain is strong, but the store shelves are not building confidence in people. Instacart was 3.99 base charge + tip but I only tipped the 5% the system defaulted to which was like $6 something, we would just go ourselves but I am showing symptoms and so neither of us can go out. I have an awful cough that is nothing like I have had before, which is leading to a sore throat, and I can feel heavy congestion feeling in my lungs, and slight shortness of breath if I try to do anything, but otherwise breathing is fine, no fever though so maybe its something else, but my body is achy like the flu but worse, but no fever, but maybe its too soon or maybe its something else entirely, who knows, but doctor said to stay home and don't go out so we are scrambling trying to find ways to obtain what we need which is has proven difficult, Amazon is pretty much out of everything still as well. Hopefully its just a run of the mill cold or something, time will tell but wont be going out anytime soon. |

Probably just have to swallow it, if one wants to keep going out to a minimum. I shall have another look at the 'membership' option and see if that works out better value. |

Instacart is really the only choice here for delivery. Bearing in mind that most prices are a bit more than the in store prices you also lose the opportunity to substitute Cauli for Broccoli; pears for apples, water melon for grapes (and vice versa) and miss in store specials as well the cheap stuff still a couple of days from the best before dates it's already a fair bit more expensive before the delivery charge and the almost hidden service fee of 5% are added.

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
I use Loblaws mostly...I think they use their own/independent shoppers. They keep you up to date via text as they go through the store. I have used Instacart via Longos. I have been pleased with both.

I may have to bite the bullet. For $9.99 a month (Express membership or something) you can shop without the delivery charge (normally $3.99 here) but the service fee is still there. It's unclear whether it's still 5%. It's not very specific. So if you use it more than twice a month it's worth paying. There's another advantage to express too...you can shop at different places in one go. So if you didn't sign up and you wanted stuff from more than one store you'd have to pay the delivery charge multiple times. Instacart here shops at Shoppers Drug Mart, Atlantic Superstore, the Wholesale version of Superstore, Walmart groceries and M&Ms and, bizarrely, Staples. I've 'sampled' a few prices across the range and there can be surprising differences. And the Wholesale place has stuff that Superstore doesn't. I bought a bag of goat meat  |

I may have to bite the bullet. Was pretty okay, just gets expensive between the tip and service charge. $3.99 delivery charge + 5% tip which was around $6.44. And the store was out of most of what we needed so we have to try again this week. The store shopped at was Super Store which is a Loblaws brand, they don't seem to offer delivery in house. Save On has the best system for delivery, flat fee, no tip driver system, all done in house by Save On employees, but very hard to get a delivery slot. |

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
If this is true, then I feel bad for the store owner. Customers mad that packages of toilet paper were $34.99, store says the supplier billed them $31.65 per pack, if the store was indeed charged $31.65 and only marked it up to $34.99, I don't see the store at fault, they can't be expected to sell things at a loss, seems Loblaws worked out a deal with the store so they can sell it for $18.49.

Online grocery shop envy here a bit.
There is no way to get groceries here except for just one of us to do a supermarket shop. That's it. |

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
In one article pretty much sums up landlords in BC well. Renting in BC is awful in general. One of the landlords mentioned in the article lost a human right tribunal case against her for harassing one of her tenants and has a history apparently of treating tenants poorly.

I just got in bed...what a simple but delightful pleasure to be in cotton sheets, just ironed (yes I iron my sheets) and dried outside in the sunshine...lots of snow on the ground but a great drying day...the smell is of a time gone by ...

There's no shame in that, we don't all have a maid and, in this era of social distancing, a trip to the laundry to have them ironed is, arguably, not essential.

It's a discussion the risk of Vancouver going bankrupt. There are a few good ones there. "If the City of Vancouver can't afford to live here, maybe it should move." |
