Sounds like she was visiting, kept saying her doctor back in her home country would never charge her and that she has traveled the world and never had to pay upfront and how her trip was ruined, over a $160 charge.

Is she a visitor? If so, has she said where she is from?
It is quite common for travel insurance not to be charged because it can be a hassle collecting the money. I've had to pay up front and claim back later ........... though that can also be a hassle! |

I don’t know what would have happened if we had not been able to pay and walked out. I was a little surprised as the bill was about the same as when I was in hospital in the US for the same condition. For some reason I thought US healthcare would cost much more than Canadian.
The going rate to walk into a BC ER before any treatment seems to be in the $700+ range, then have to add on any costs from doctors who treated you, lab, x-ray, etc and it can really add up quickly especially if admitted if not covered by MSP. |
Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
Went grocery shopping today put everything away, and realized just now the fridge has broke at some point today, pushing 50 degrees F and set for 37F.
They put these stupid German fridges in and they are pure crap. Gonna lose all the food though which sucks ass. |

Seems to be kind of working, just not keeping cold enough, fluctuating between 47F and 53F where it's set at 37F, but either way 47F-53F is too warm so clearly something wrong. |

I was able to get most of the stuff into the deep freeze, the milk, cheese and some sort of dip is a loss, but only about $25 worth so not horrible thankfully we had the deep freeze.

Not the best area for a tourist hotel, seems hotel owners are seeing it affect their business now. |
Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
Can you cook some of the raw food? It might keep better.
Do you have any spare blankets ................ if you have, wrap them around the fridge to add extra insulation. |
Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
Its just the cheese and milk that ended up as casualties, I managed to cram everything else into the deep freeze we have.
It's a built in fridge so sits into the wall or however built in's work, so can't wrap anything around it. Thankfully we had the deep freeze up and running. Pretty much everyone has issues with the fridge in this building, apparently they were not installed correctly according to some of the owners of units who have had theirs replaced. Built in similiar to this.

https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-devon-49070562 I couldn't believe the size of UK seagulls when I first saw them, in fact I had to ask my husband what sort of bird they are. Aussie ones are very scrawny in comparison. |

MIL after 50 some odd years in Canada has decided to apply for citizenship in Canada.
If I had the money, I would just go to Seattle to see a doctor, I am losing faith in the doctors here..... |

Sometimes shopping on Amazon is frustrating, item literally went up $7 in the time of my initial search and putting it in my cart. Damn dynamic pricing.

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
I was in the end able to get the $10.02, it took ordering on the phone to do it though.
My computer currently show the $17.77 price still. I only need this for a one off project, and likely never need it again, so didn't want to spend a bunch on something I wont need again. |

This kind of thing really hacks me off... try another browser/clear cache, go again... delete cookies.... have to sign in from new again. Sometimes one gets the good price back, but not always. I usually run two different browser sessions when I'm after something.

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
Still nothing on the throat/coughing/neck issue, next stop a specialist, apparently the specialist usually pretty fast at 3-6 months. If only the referral was sent 3 months ago when it started and would not go away.
If I had the ability to, I would go to the US at this point and see a doctor just to speed things up and get it dealt with. I just hate the it's probably not serious, but there is a chance it could be, and then having to wait several more months. |

The UK has had its hottest July day on record, with temperatures reaching 38.1C (100.6F) in Cambridge.

My daughter’s family doctor said if she wanted to see a specialist quickly, it is best to go to the ER. Once a specialist at the ER sees you can get appointments with that doctor much faster.
When my wife was having gallbladder issues several years ago and in pain, the surgeon she was originally sent to had a 3-6 month wait list, but the pain was quite severe at times, so each time there was onset of pain she went to the ER, at the 3rd visit another surgeon who was consulted by the ER doctor booked her for surgery a few days later, so only about 2 week wait from initial symptoms and pain to surgery. I have to renew my US passport soon, appears they have no method to pay online, and require a check or money order drawn on a financial institution based in the US, so I guess I have to cross the border to get one. "Renewing from Canada? Personal checks or money orders must draw on U.S. financial institutions based in the United States and be payable in U.S. dollars." |

We put up a shelf in the kitchen today but had to move a clock to the other side of a window for it.
I keep looking at the shelf to see the time. |

Looks like that is to be updated with the Me office investigating a claim of 38.7C which would be a UK record of all time, this is also in Cambridge.
MrBEVS cousin outside of Wolverhampton said that for a couple of nights it was really uncomfy and there were storms. I've not heard any complaints from my lot in Bournemouth. They seem to be just ding their usual thing. |
