Have you seen your doctor yet rather than sefl diagnosing? B12 would cover some of these things but blood tests would reveal your levels, plus you need to find out why it's low.

I had something similar last week, got dizzy, fell over, had to attend a series of meetings with people from out of town with a fat lip and carpet burns all up my face. A number of ribald remarks about rug burns ensued. Went to the doctor on the weekend and had an EKG, a cat scan, blood work, a heart monitoring session the whole business. Best to get it all done before Doug Ford abolishes hospitals.

Oh he wont abolish them just the clinical staff and patients. Hope your feeling better soon

I find I get more bacterial lung infections in Canada vs when I lived in the US, but could be the fact I am older here vs there so not as young and healthy...

I find I get dizzy often when standing up, vision goes for a second or 2 and I have to hold a wall or something to balance. Doctors can't find no medical problem and doing a search seems somewhat common, but apparently those who experience such symptoms when standing are higher risk of heart failure later in life, but I figure my heart is going to kill me, killed just about every male in the family thus far.

MS stats are high for the UK too
"Prevalence rates vary around the UK. Based on the figure of 107,000 people with MS, it is estimated that the number of people with MS in England is around 164 per 100,000; in Wales about 138; about 175 in Northern Ireland and as high as 209 in Scotland. Prevalence in the north of Scotland is particularly high."
Isn't the dizzy when standing up am tall eorsom thing? A head rush? My husband often gets that and it's worse if he holds his breath when standing up.
The heart.kills all of us eventually

Yesterday we received our 2 x $25 Loblaws cards issued as supposed compensation for buying overpriced bread in the past. Normally I wouldn’t waste my time and energy even applying, but the fact that I can turn them over to the local Food Bank or buy food for the Food Bank and help someone out, made applying worthwhile.

One thing I absolutely hate is that breeders here like to chop their tails - doc them, which is just so unnecessary. Abbey's tail was docked far too short resulting in issues. Other problems they can have are hip issues.

One of the biggest pain in the bum things about them is the double coat, which depending on the 'type', mattes very easily, right down to the skin, once it gets past a certain length - it can literally go like wool if you don't catch it early enough and results in having to cut the fur ultra short (and shaving them makes it worse in the long term). Lovely dogs though and would be my first choice every time. Calm, loving and loyal.. both of mine have been devoted, never leaving my side.

:)

This is my guy, a miniature poodle with none of this crossbreed business. He's lovely, always happy, everybody's best friend. He's also stubborn and wilful.
Poodles have hair, a single layer which keeps on growing so it needs frequent grooming to prevent matting.

Excellent idea.

(the food banks missed a trick there - some organisation could have suggested it)

No, registration ended on 8th May. https://www.loblawcard.ca/

The trouble with the loblaw compensation cards is that you have to activate them before they can be used - either in store or online or by phone - not sure either if you can use multiple cards at the same time to pay for groceries (as a food bank would need to) - may have to check the terms and conditions.
There would be nothing to stop people buying food and donating it though.

Yes...I just thought it would have been more successful if some organisation or other had, well, organised it.
A bit like the winter fuel payments (as distinct from the cold weather payments) in the UK that are dished out to pensioners. Some years ago many said they didn't need them and even wealthy celebs were getting them - including Terry Wogan. I can't remember who was behind it but there was a campaign set up to collect the value of the payments for distribution to those of greater need.

From time to time they do a food collection on the buses here and it replaces your fare.

I put up a window fan 3 weeks ago in the front window that overlooks the street. 3 weeks ago it was completely clean as I had cleaned it. Now black soot all over the blade and cage parts, not typical dust.

Makes you wonder all the crap that must end up inside that we then get to breathe.

Apartment life sucks, hate living in a shoe box with no yard.

Thinking about highly successful and wealthy people who feel they cannot overcome their issues and end their lives, makes one think, if they can't overcome issues with resources to get help, how can people without said resources be expected to keep going with basic limited help?

Oh I remember those days, sigh.. when I lived in my first apartment here (a high rise on a main road) I had a window air conditioner and a window fan - and they used to be black with a sooty oily dust that got into everwhere.. the curtains, blinds, window frames, everything coated in it. Disgusting :(

I was hoping to win that $60million so I could spread some happiness around J - sadly I wasn't a winner..

Things will change, hang in there :)

I found Greenworks cleaner worked really well to get the sooty stuff off :)

Oh yes apartment living. Back in London I lived in a studio flat with the mainline trains out the back wall and a busy road at the front. I only had net curtains to filter the muck out. Washed when they were crunchy! No AC of course as this was London so after work I'd go to the park or the Ladies Pond on Hampstead Heath. Hey ho, those were the days.

bats, you've just brought a few 'visions' back for me, bless you! I spent a few years living in and around Ladbroke Grove, before (cough, spit!) moving 'sarf of the river' to Kennington. As much as living in London eventually got to me, I still have fond memories of being both 'norf and sarf'.

They had other challenges. I know that when there’s not much money we have a tendency to feel that we’d be happy if only we had money. But it’s not that simple.
So don’t tell yourself that if they can’t deal with it with all their millions that you obviously can’t.
You seem to be formalizing a plan at the moment. Write it down, create a vision board, and work towards it.
Remember, baby steps. We all want to achieve our goals overnight but it’s not that simple. Take time to enjoy the journey not just the destination. ❤️

I am working on it. Hopefully work will be able to accomodate the day I need off. Waiting to hear back from them about it.

I know money cant fix my issues it would just open up long term help and of course let us have a good quality of life vs the constant struggle. Just being able to travel a bit see family would do a lot of good.

I think in part being isolated from family affects me more then I realized in the past.

So if a move back home is feasible then maybe do it? Plan it, put pictures on the fridge so every time you go to get something out you are reminded of your favorite spots back home.
But make it happen. So what if it take two years instead of one, you’d be working towards it.

When we made thr move to Canada there were a lot of people who said “I wish I could do it”. I said to them and I’ll say to you... stop dreaming and make it happen.
If you can’t afford to go back with all your stuff then sell. It’s just stuff.
Focus on what you can do and not what you can’t.

(Foot note to say that this is all coming from a place of caring not frustration).

Its something we are thinking about and looking into longer term. Not something that can be done quickly as there are things to deal with such as immigration for my other half, saving the funds necessary to secure housing and live off of while we find jobs, possibly be able to stay with my mom very short term, but she lives in a 55+ community so technically she is only allowed under 55's for 7 days max, but they don't seem super strict on the rules.

My step sister and her 2 kids live with my dad and step mom, so can't stay there, doubtful she will move anytime soon as she doesn't have the funds to live on her own, San Diego region is not cheap, comparable to Vancouver for renting housing, cheaper to own though, can own a house for 500,000-600,000k which obviously isn't within our abilities but it is cheaper vs Vancouver...lol

Palm Springs area is cheaper so might make more sense to go there.

It's something we are working on trying to build a plan that will work.

Service Canada sure does take their sweet time when it comes to processing EI claims, good thing we have disability, but man if someone could no longer work, they could end up homeless before a claim is decided on.

I won't receive any funds, but the province required me to apply for EI so they can reduce disability amount if I get approved, but at this rate, I'll be working again before EI makes a decision.

33 days so far, and just says under review still.

I think they have a six week maximum turnover. I might be wrong but I’m sure I read something like that when I claimed.

Interestingly, if you are in receipt of EI through loss of your job... and if you then become incapacitated and unable to work (or seek work) for at least 4 weeks, with a doctors / specialists letter to state the same, you can then get 'sickness benefit' and your EI is extended by the same amount of time!

Thanks. All I could find is that they strive to have it all done within 28 days, and their call center wasn't any help, they just regurgitate what it says online. The process really should be quicker, if someone found themselves out of work suddenly, taking this long could mean having a place to live or being homeless.

I don't really care how long it takes, but the province is eager to know if they can reduce disability to they have been pestering me.

Payment of Employment Insurance benefits
  • Our standard: Our goal is for EI benefit payments or non-benefit notifications to be issued within 28 days of filing
  • Our target: ESDC aims to meet this standard 80% of the time
  • Our performance in 2016-2017: ESDC met this standard 83.2% of the time

I guess my application ended up in the 20% that they don't meet the 28 day time line.

I took some assessment tests for a school, okay with English, but I did horrendous on the math, could not even begin to start answering a problem as I had no idea where to start...Way beyond any math I ever learned in school.

I am going to try and upgrade in the fall, however I don't have high hopes as each time I have tried to tackle math, I have not succeed, if I don't this time, I am not going to try again.

I wish there was some sort of job I could do that paid well and didn't require schooling/training because everything more or less requires math at some level.

I was never any good at math either, lol.

Apparently, "janitor" is a job where no math is required and can be well paid .. and if you can get into a school then it's pretty secure too (school janitor / asst pay around $20 an hour in BC). :)

Have you ever thought of an apartment building superintendent position (or assistant) whilst the salary isn't that great, there's usually a free 2 bed apartment included. Just a thought :)

Hope it goes well!

Janitor seems to vary quite a lot, anywhere from min wage to 50k a year, depending on who is employing you, government's tend to pay more, but difficult to get. I do check on Vancouver School board job site, and other government job sites, and do apply for some of the jobs, I have not gotten interviews but I do apply. School board currently only has skilled jobs, but if anyone is a teacher they seem to be hiring at the moment, I hear there is a shortage of teachers, wage is too low to live in Vancouver comfortably.

I did apply to rail road jobs as they seem to pay well, never do well on the assessment test though, so never get to an interview stage. A lot of mechanical reasoning stuff so apparently I don't have good mechanical reasoning...lol.

Thought since I like trains that it might be an interesting job, and pay seems decent. Have had a few co-workers who have left my company to go work for the rail road.

Just trying to obtain something that is more transferable skill wise so we can try and move somewhere lower housing cost and maybe buy someday, even if made 50k a year that is not enough to make Vancouver work but would be not a bad wage in some other areas of BC.

I would go to the US for school and take the aquarium science degree offered in Oregon, would love to work at an aquarium. The requirements some I can meet but others I can't specifically having a high GPA and having 2 academic references, they don't have an adult entry stream, and when I talked to them 3 years ago, average GPA on acceptance was 3.7

My high school GPA was 2.1 or 2.2 and well it was 21 years ago so its not acceptable anyhow, I would need a few years of college under my belt, I really don't think I could get a high GPA, I am a C student, solid C student, got a spattering of A's in BS classes but any serious class, C's and difficult classes like math, never passed, I never passed a math class from grade 7 to 12.

I wish I knew why my brain can't remember material well, and why I don't do well in school, sure wasn't from a lack of trying, not sure I could have tried any harder.

A publicity stunt if ever I saw one. Who's building was the beast scaling? Next they'll be resorting to tree slugs.

They are incredibly tenacious; if that little raccoon wants in your shed it will get in.

Looking at the number of Z list actors pawning crap here in the US they are already using tree slugs made up as actors.
