I thought they were simply an alternative to the window version because you didn't have the 'right' sort of window. |

Yes, but you can put the hose out of the window (or both, if it's a double hose one.. though those aren't as efficient, I've found. Single hose ones suck the room air into the machine and pump the hot air to the outside) ... -the hoses are about 2-4" around, easily boxed in with the window kit supplied (or some cardboard and tape), and suitable for any type of window as long as it can open!
But my windows are sort of square with a turning handle that opens half, door-like and a mozzie screen on the inside part of the window. Not sure how the screen part would work with a hose. I mean, I could imagine cutting an appropriate hole but I don't think it would be good for the screen especially when you weren't using the hose. |

It doesn't necessarily have to be all the way outside. The one my son uses goes up to the screen (the screens are on the outside of the 1950's casement windows) and he has created a seal around it (filling the rest of the window opening) against the screen. That may be more awkward if your screen is on the inside as you won't be able to block it off and the hot air will be coming back in through the gap. Could you have the cooling unit in your bedroom and extend the venting hose to another window somewhere? They are available (google search) :) |

Completely fed up with trying to find a groomers that can do a great job more than once. My poor little girl has had to see a vet for the damage this time. The groomers claim they have no idea how she ended up damaged and are saying they think they pulled a scab off with the brush, seriously, we would have noticed blood prior, on a wound this big.https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/british...b62ab8a432.jpg

That's terrible! I would ask the vet how old that wound is, what could have caused it, is it a clean cut etc., and then I would be suing the arse off the groomers Poor little girl :( I don't know if you have mobile groomers in your area, that will come to the house? I've found they are more careful and do a better job than the hack n slash merchants at some of those store front ones. Perhaps because they have to rely heavily on repeats and recommendations... plus, because they are parked in your driveway while they do it, it's very easy to be checked up on! Best of luck and hugs to the little one. |
Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
Poor doggy. How on earth did they manage to do that?
Our dog is short haired so doesn't need grooming but she goes in for nail trimming since she is less then cooperative with us, and once we went to a petsmart and I was looking at this fish while they were doing her nails, and then I could hear Charlee screaming from the grooming room in the back of the store from where I was in the front, I went back straight and they acted like nothing happened, but never had the dog run to me so fast and clearly scared of the lady. No idea what happened, they said they just cut the nail too short, but I saw no evidence of that. We went back to the store a few weeks later and Charlee wouldn't even go in, so something happened that day. |
Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
The vets initial reaction was a bite, once he shaved her down he said, maybe not. He said maybe she had torn on something, barbed wire or similar. The groomer said maybe she had a scrap that got caught in the brush.
she doesn't go off leash. There is no barbed wire near us. If she has a prior injury THAT big, we would have seen it...and the blood in the house. I think, that the groomers brush caught a knot and she just ripped away. |

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
It wasn't a long 'cut more like a deep skinned knee with a little flap. It only looks long because of the staples, vet wasn't sure the would hold. I can't stay, she's a 4 hour groom. She has black nails too. I say 4 hours, her appointment was for 8.30am, I called at one, she wasn't ready, they called me at 2.30pm to say she was ready.

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
Sounds like they rushed it doesn't it. Maybe caught her on a nail? Poor thing. All that and 4 hours at the hairdressers. Nightmare. My little poodle is only an hour as he doesn't get all fluffed up. |

It's amazing how fast one can fall behind simply from missing a month of work. I go back next weekend, and a month off, will take like 3-5 months to catch back up...
Modern medicine has so many answers sometimes, but at the same time still has a long ways to go. |

It would be nice to not have constant bad things happen, the little good things simply cannot make up for all the bad, seems no matter what we do, something bad happens to pull us down or multiple bad things at once.

This site is becoming too slow to be enjoyable now.
The number of adsites that it addresses and transfers information to is evidence that the site administrators have sold their souls. Not a great deal else to say really, even more widely used news sites are less contaminated with adware. Sad really but there it is. |

Schools make it really difficult to go back as an adult, I was never a B student, no way I can get a B in all the subjects most of the programs I look into require, especially math, at best maybe a C.
At this point I don't even know what kind of training would lead to a better paying job or what I am even capable of doing at this age. I am back at work, but no way I can do this job for more then a couple more years, my knee and back are to the point, I have to take Advil and tylenol to get through the day. By the time I get home, I am limping my knee hurts do bad. |

You are articulate, computer literate, kind, helpful, thoughtful, interact and engage well with all nationalities, know how to research, can write and spell with competenence, are good with animals (and fish), are interested in a multitude of subjects and can converse on them, you understand complex documentation to do with airlines, have experience and understanding of hotel software and guest experience matters.... you are level headed and able to circumvent difficulties. In other words - you are a great all-rounder! So.. rather than think "Oh I'm crap at Math" think "I may be crap at Math but I am AWESOME at so much more!!!" Think about what you enjoy - what you like -- whether it's walking, seeing places, trains, being with animals, being out in the wilds, being able to help people who need guidance, writing.. have a think ..what do you LIKE ... then find things related to what you like and see if there are job opportunities in any way. Look into jobs that recognise the qualities you HAVE already.. :D I know you probably think I am just spouting nonsense and perhaps don't understand.. but I do, maybe not in the expected way.. but when I moved to Canada I couldn't get a job for years.. I went from being an office manager in the UK to being unemployed, for years. When I finally got one, I was laid off after 3 months... and applied for literally hundreds of jobs over the next 2 years or more and couldn't even get an interview. I started my own company but it was a total failure, I had 2 clients in 5 years.. and I despaired of ever finding another job, let alone finding a job that paid my bills. I spent a lot of time online, a lot of time on BE - and loved it - and wanted to help people if I could.. and wished I could find a job that paid me to do something I enjoyed like this. and that I wasn't too bad at! Then I found out there was.. and 5 years on, I'm still working at it, as a Social Media Specialist and Moderator... and I love my job. Ok, I might not earn the big bucks, but it pays my bills and if I was younger (umm like your age, lol) then I could advance and get a better paid position - but at my age (I'm old...) it's not going to happen - so I stick with what I do best, what I enjoy.. and thank my lucky stars. :) Wishing you all the best of luck x |

I lack interpersonal skills and social skills needed to really do well in customer service, that is why I only did night audit overnight, limited the amount of contact I had with guests and limited phone calls, as I don't multi-task well and become very stressed when I have a guest in front of me, the phone ringing and juggling it all efficiently...lol Same reason I didn't do well in airline customer service, when someone is angry I become defensive and can't seem to separate the they are not mad at me but the company aspect. I think the one reason I do well on the ramp, is simply because there is no customer contact and if a flight is delayed or cancelled, I don't have to deal with the passengers, a cancelled flight for the ramp is an extra break, for upstairs folks its a lot of extra work and stress. I do well in my current job and like it and would have no problem doing it long term, however my body say's it's not going to be possible. Eventually I'll have to find something less physical so need to start looking more long term. I suppose physical labor wears out the body earlier in life vs less physical work. I was told about 7 years ago, I would likely need a knee replacement by 50, and I am thinking that doctor was correct based on the increasing pain and problems it's giving me. I am sure the knee problems all stem from working on the ramp and so much time being spent on knees when loading planes, not much room in the belly of narrow body aircraft, some are maybe 4 feet from floor to ceiling. I do at times apply for more semi-skilled jobs that I could do and have the skills to do, the companies seem to have a strong preference for people with college diplomas/degrees/specific training instead, I find even at almost 40, its becoming hard to compete with the 20 somethings, which I suppose is nothing new, I would imagine 20 years ago an almost 40 year old had the same problem, employers tend to prefer the young over the older. If I had mechanical aptitude I would consider aircraft maintenance, pays better, still physical in nature, but less so compared to the ramp, and a lot more older maintenance folks then ramp folks. I just don't have the aptitude, I can barely fix things around the house....lol.... About a year and a half ago before I got my current job, I was going to a work BC office, and they had me take an aptitude test as apparently these tests are supposed to help guide you, they always make things more confusing for me...lol Apparently I am best suited for jobs like Actuary, Astronomer, Healthcare Administrator or Manager, Corporate lawyer, geneticist, hospital administrator or Manager, Quality assurance manager, systems administrator, venture capitalist, nurse, psychiatrist, university professor, pilot, Veterinarian and movie usher. I have no idea how these tests come up with the results they do, but pretty sure almost all require a fair amount of training or education...lol... I am not sure why movie usher always comes up, when I took an aptitude test in high school courtesy of the US military, it was on there too...ha ha I would stay in the airline world, if I could find a way to make a living income which is mostly management, maintenance and pilots these days all of which require more education then I have, airport authorities tend to pay okay as well, I do look at the job offerings YVR has posted. |
