This reddit post amused me.
But if anyone is looking for affordable co-op housing in Vancouver this place is apparently needing to fill units. |

Apparently I am best suited for jobs like Actuary, Astronomer, Healthcare Administrator or Manager, Corporate lawyer, geneticist, hospital administrator or Manager, Quality assurance manager, systems administrator, venture capitalist, nurse, psychiatrist, university professor, pilot, Veterinarian and movie usher. I have no idea how these tests come up with the results they do, but pretty sure almost all require a fair amount of training or education...lol... I am not sure why movie usher always comes up, when I took an aptitude test in high school courtesy of the US military, it was on there too...ha ha I would stay in the airline world, if I could find a way to make a living income which is mostly management, maintenance and pilots these days all of which require more education then I have, airport authorities tend to pay okay as well, I do look at the job offerings YVR has posted. |

Several big banners on the side of the building.

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
I nearly lost my wedding ring down the bathroom plughole the other day.
I applied my after shave balm after shaving (when else?) and then I was wiping the residue from my hands with a flannel. It was the sound that alerted me as I saw it bounce around in the sink and then slide to the open hole - there's no insert thingy. Fortunately I still have good reflexes and grabbed it. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/british...284cf91a0e.png |

Things Your Father Taught You That You Haven't Taught Your Kids #23
I bought an electrical gadget at the weekend - a pump, if you must know - and when I got it home and took it out of the box I saw something I don't think I've seen in 20+ years... The cable had no plug on it. Just a bare length of cable. No problem, I thought, once I'd got over the surprise. I just knew that I didn't have a spare plug anywhere (who does these days?) but I thought I'll just whip one off something I don't use any more and wire it onto my new pump. Well, I had plenty old gadgets but of course every single one of them has a sealed plug, absolutely no use for re-using. So I had to go out again to buy a new plug. Got back, was just about to start when Teenage Son, almost 18, came into the kitchen. Life Lesson time! "Let me teach you how to wire a plug," "Nah, you're alright, can't be that hard, can it?" |

This is terrible. Baby died after pain relief patch became attached to her skin
My wife used to have fentanyl patches prescribed many years ago. |

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
I had a wedding ring originally, a basic gold band, nothing fancy. I was heavier when we got married, and lost some weight, and well I think it fell off somewhere when I washed my hands, but I really have no idea where it was, so could not look for it. I never replaced it, but now my job is one in which rings cannot be worn for safety, so we never felt the need to replace it.

So. "Random stuff", eh? I'm 78 and have never owned a wedding ring, because it wasn't really the fashion back in 1967 (in Toronto, as it happens). Roughly when did it become pretty much compulsory for men?

Back in the UK in Bristol, prior to returning to Montreal to get married, I went to H Samuel and the exact ring I'd be happy with, almost plain but a bit of design was on clearance. The money saved went towards the one she liked best.

I never feel in the least bit homesick for the UK but I do wish the Guardian would stop doing things like best beaches, best seaside towns, best European cities (and best lesser known ones) for weekend breaks and such like.
Today they've done 10 of the UK’s best waterside pubs Swines. |

Typical wimpy Guardian summary in my opinion, apart from the Rashleigh in Cormwall, that's a good pub. Loads of excellent pubs on the Thames from Oxford all the way down to London, some other belting watering holes on home counties canals.
The Guardian goes for the obscure sometimes. Top ten holidays - Yoga in the Andes, Tantric Esperanto in Antarctica... |

HUD classifies 117,000 as low income for a family of 4 in San Francisco, 82,000 for a single. 73,300 is considered very low income for a family, 51,350 for a single. Extremely low income 44,000 for a family of 4, 30,000 for a single. One would be better of in New York City now, 83,000 is considered low income for a family of 4. My hometown of San Diego 77,000 is considered low for a family of 4. 54,000 for a single. https://www.huduser.gov/portal/datas...018summary.odn Crazy how costly more and more city's are getting. Above figures are in USD$. |

Another trip could be Germany, Austria, Hungary, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Croatia. And of course Canada. I was thinking of USA, but if I'm perfectly honest I'd prefer to visit Canada properly. I've only been once, and that was a far too short work trip, but I had a really great time - Toronto. Many hours of research to come! |

Writer and historian Dan Jones examines the creation of the picturesque Kennet and Avon Canal, which was born from a murky pool of dirty deals and demanding landowners. It came into being thanks to the genius of young engineer John Rennie, whose inspiration and innovations created a waterway that linked Bristol to London. Dan discovers how Rennie plotted the canal's route using the most basic of surveying instruments and marvels at the engineering innovations that made it all possible, such as the water-powered pumping station at Claverton. |
