Having not work 5 days a week, 8 hours per day in a long time, it is tiring.
I find working 5 eight hour days more tiring vs working 4 ten hour days, the best is working 3 12.5 hour days with 4 days off. |

I once did overtime for 8 weeks running, making my day 8.30am to 8.00 pm (but not Friday) and 8 hour days at the weekend. That was tough but I was still young (18) and did it to pay off a bank loan that paid for my 3 weeks in Canada in 1975. Perfect working day would have been 8-12. Yep, just the mornings. And only Mon-Fri. :D |
Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
4 hour shifts would be good. We work too much and lack time off in our lifetime.
Having the 4 days off was the best part if 12 hour shifts, 3 work days then 4 off, lots of time to do things and relax. I find with the 2 days off the days off are rushed and not relaxing as there is so much to do. When I did 12 hour shifts well 12.5 it was 12 noon to 12:30am. When I did 10 hour shifts I was 4am to 3pm with 1 hour unpaid for lunch which was really breakfast since our break was 7am lol. I just found longer shifts with more days off led to a better work life balance.

Helped a young, blind man cross the main road yesterday, chatting he explained that he works as a volunteer giving psychological support to severely handicapped people at the local rehabilitation centre. Smashing chap!

Landlord with several properties in the area tried to slip in a clause to allow rent increase of inflation plus 7%. The province stepped in and told the landlord to remove said clause or risk fines of $5,000 per day.
Current rental increase is currently capped at 2.5% per year for existing tenants. https://www.citynews1130.com/2019/09...ncy-contracts/ |

Current rental increase is currently capped at 2.5% per year for existing tenants. There was something about a landlord not being able to increase rent or only by the cap unless there was a new tenancy and that a tenancy couldn't be ended without a reason. Something like that. In this province, reasons such as landlord's family use only need apply once a tenant has Tenure, after 5 years. Rents can be increased without limit after a tenancy has existed for a year. Of course if that happens they risk losing a tenant and losing a month's rent is a bigger loss than any gain would be so it's not that likely. |
Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
I think it was Alberta but not 100% sure for that post.
I have no idea when rent control started in BC, but its been in place the entire 15 years I have been here, so I think its been around for quite a long time now the amount of the increase has varied over the years, since 2005 the largest allowed increase was 2012 at 4.3%, this year 2.5% was allowed. We have not seen a rent increase since we moved into our unit in 2017 so have been lucky, but $1,750 isn't affordable either. Here is BC rental info if your interested at all. https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/h...andlord-notice

We've put our names down for a puppy. DH is going around singing 'We're getting a puppy'. The Bitch hasn't even been mated yet (one this week and one in two weeks). Super excited, hope our application gets accepted.

If still in Vancouver and downtown Friday, there is some sort of climate strike protest which might create a mess. |

I can't go to rural or I get frustrated with having everything so far away, ideally I would live in the west end, close to everything, can walk nearly everywhere, but still quieter. Not a fan of East Vancouver but this is one of the "cheap" areas so don't get much choice in the area we live. |

Good thing it was just a cover, wont make the plane fall out of the sky, but yeah in a lot of these videos people are relatively calm, suppose a good crew will reassure passengers.
This one from last year.. These are nothing compared to some training videos I have seen over the years.

I saw that too, wild and crazy. Never seen that type of ground equipment, odd little thing, but suppose for RJ's easier to cater vs a truck.

Fastest way to get fired from an airline or ground handling company is to cause damage to an aircraft, its almost always a termination if you cause aircraft damage for ground workers. |

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
Nothing involving commercial aircraft is cheap.
Problem when it comes to damage on the ground by ground crew is humans are never 100% perfect and they will always find a reason to blame whoever it was that did it. Moreso with ground handling companies than airlines, airlines provide better training, lower turn over, more experienced employees so tend to have less issues when compared to ground handling contractors with high turn over.

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
When a commercial airplane has a fender bender on the tarmac it makes the national news. That indicates (to me) that it is an extremely rare occurrence. Some damage will of course cost more to repair.
